Their rate for a home equity loan it about 1% less than what our bank offers, but i don't know how safe they are.....anyone have experience with either one of these?

I got a home equity loan with E-Loan about 3 years ago. The process was very simple but of course that was back in the days when they were giving loans away. They fedexed all the paperwork to me and made the arrangements with a local real estate attorney for the "closing". At that time they had no closing costs and their rates were less than traditional lenders so they were a good choice.

My brother and his new wife just used e-loan to buy a house... about 6 months ago. Neither of them had any credit history (since they are both still kids)... so they were turned down for a loan at a number of local banks. E-loans did not give them any trouble... they did have a slightly higher rate. I believe it was 7%... so, not outrageous. Immediately after the loan and purchase went though, e-loan transferred them to Wells Fargo (one the top 5 most trusted).
So, I would say: e-loan = good.
