That seems quite a reasonable price for the house and it looks like it's in good condition. (I live in west Bethlehem and 2.5 years ago I bought a similarly sized house for $116K.) Good luck with the decision!

Seems to vary a lot. On my block, one month ago there were 4 houses for sale--3 newly built condos and 1 old house, all about 1400 sf. The old house (old but *very* sturdy--the old houses on my block have foot-thick concrete block walls) was originally listed at 139K (they've dropped it down to 136). Two of the new condos have sold--for about 220K each! It's great for my property value, but I'd sure rather have an old sturdy house for 60% of the price of the new one!

Yeah, I am just trying to figure out if I should stay at home for now and save save save....or branch out and get my own place. I don't know what to do. I teach in Easton and make about $50,000 a year.

I am getting married in Sept 2009. My fiance has another year of law school and will then graduate with mucho debt. Part of me (a big part of me) wants to buy a home and get settled before he gets out of school.

Hehe. When I was making $30k our first condo (about same size; though much smaller kitchen) was $260k. Of course, we were lucky to find 3 bedrooms at that price. (Same condo is something like $500k today though).

Crazy is relative.

We actually only bought a condo because it was all we could afford (we had some relatives pay $700k for starter homes that needed major fixing, Egads). Anyway, we came to really enjoy condo living. For the long term we wanted more space for kids, but we talk about downsizing back to condo living when the kids are grown. The low maintenance is nice. But I really dislike the constant state of flux as a renter. It's kind of a nice compromise between owning a home and being a renter. Though I wouldn't necessarily think a condo was worth it unless you were in a really crazy expensive area. They are good investments in extremely expensive areas; not so sure otherwise. (Condo/townhouse; all the same).

The areas that I just posted are not where I am living now. I could not get a decent townhome for under $300k where I live with my father.
