Do you have some favorite housewarming presents to give? For a move to a new house, I mean.

Plants are always nice. Candles and Christmas ornaments/decorations are nice as well.

Or, you can go another route and get them gift certificates for local restaurants so they can order in dinner while they're unpacking and setting up house.

We had someone do the gift certificate route when we were unpacking. They made some cookies and brought over a gift certificate to a pizza place and gave us a nice pizza cutter. It was a nice idea.

I would say a gift of food either a gift certificate or a meal they can heat up later would be great.

If you know what they drink, a bottle of liquor is nice!!

The gift certificate route is always appreciated and used at the beginning of a move when things tend to be more hectic than usual.

I like a restaurant gift certificate, or make them some casseroles or something (they will be busy, and everything is in boxes, etc.). I think that is appreciated.

One of my favorites is a high quality garden hose or shovel.

It may be cliche. . .but we usually gave candles.

Frugalfish, I love your ideas for this couple! I'm going to do that, plus a basketball for the hoop on the face of the garage!

our friends recently purchased a house and it has a fireplace... they have never had one before... we went to home depot the other day to buy my 1 flower, get 1 half off from the garden club coupon, and we bought fireplace equipment tools and the grate, and the stand on the floor screen for them... a few firelogs... they loved it... they called us up friday and told us they were using the fireplace to stop by, and we did.. i took a box of variety teas and xmas cookies in tins... we ate and drank and had a great time talking and laughing...

That sounds great, markio. What a coincidence! I was just looking at Freecycle for the first time since autumn and someone had offered a fireplace set. It made me remember my friends are going to have a fireplace and I thought that would be a nice present, too. Or one of those metal frames that can hold a few arm loads of wood beside the fireplace. And, fireplace matches, of course. Oh I'm just so happy for them that I want to participate in getting it all together, I think,

Just ask yourself...if I were moving to a new home...what would I like?
It would be different for everyone, BUT...if these people are your friends/family you must have things in common and similar "wants".
Or something you cant have to much of...like towels or food, or things you use and dispose of, so it doesn't waste space.
