I currently pay $547 every 6 months for a 2005 Jeep Liberty and I'm with State Farm. My daughter will be turning 16 later this year and I am pretty worried about the increase in insurance costs. I've heard that some people's insurance doubles with their teen drivers. On another forum I frequent, one guy stated that he pays $635 a month! I don't know where he lives or his circumstance but that seems beyond exorbitant to me.

How much do you pay for car insurance?

It's going to vary widely by location. DH and I pay app. $1300 on two cars (2000 minivan and 2005 Nissan Sentra). I have a clean driving record; he has a few tickets. He's taken Defensive Driving; mine has expired (and I've got to get on that - I'll save $80/year!). We live in a rural area in Upstate NY. He drives 3 miles to work and I drive about 7. We have Liberty Mutual, who I get a discount with through my job (10%). I've called around in the past, but only found a slightly cheaper policy - not worth the switch for me. Sorry, I can't give any input on teen drivers yet (thank goodness - mine are 3 and 4, so I have a LONG way to go!).

Property and casualty insurance are highly individualized. It is pointless to try and compare rates between different drivers.
The only thing you can compare is your own personal situation at different insurance carriers, and even then make sure you hold the level of coverage constant or else it will be meaningless.
Do more research on how auto insurance premiums are calculated. You will find that every carrier is different, and none of them will publish their calculation algorithm.
