The cost of the Iraq war

I can't believe the costs we are spending on this war. I just read we have already spent $70,000,000,000 (70 billion) on it and we are looking at $6 billion a month more. It just seems crazy to me.

The Iraq population is 24 million and the average annual income is currently $450 a year. That means if we had just given the money to the Iraq people, each person would have received $3,000 which would be more than 6 years worth of their average salary.

I know it is a simpilistic computation, but it just seems a total waste of money not to mention lives.

Yeah too bad we didn't assasinate saddam in the beginning. There probably wouldn't have been a war. Then we could give each family $700 and save ourselves billions.

It's seems Mr. Bush wants another $25,000,000,000 for the war according to today's newspaper. It just seems to me it could have been spent in a much more constructive way.

You think they would get a clue. Total waste of money, but you have to pay back those defense contractors for all the political contributions they make. Sure makes me glad I pay my taxes

I wonder what the total is up to now? I wonder what the total would be if we had waited 10 years and they were able to use the nuclear secrets smuggled to them from the Pakistani "father of the bomb" along with the raw materials they had already paid for from North Korea, but weren't shipped because of the pre invasion military build up?

We’ve already spent more than $300 BILLION on Iraq. Almost all of it off-budget.

I wonder what the total would be if we had waited 10 years and they were able to use the nuclear secrets smuggled to them from the Pakistani "father of the bomb" along with the raw materials they had already paid for from North Korea, but weren't shipped because of the pre invasion military build up?

Ah, according to the ‘International Atomic Energy Agency’, In its 1998 report:

"Based on all credible information available to date ... the IAEA has found no indication of Iraq having achieved its programme goal of producing nuclear weapons or of Iraq having retained a physical capability for the production of weapon-useable nuclear material or having clandestinely obtained such material."

I don't see a single good thing it's accomplished, except maybe that one man (Saddam) is out of power, tho of course there are dozens more ready to take his place in an equally repressive, ie, fundamentalist dictatorship. Yeah, what a mess.

Ah, according to the ‘International Atomic Energy Agency’, In its 1998 report :#

Google "Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan" and see how much he has single handedly done to destabilize the world by spreading nuclear secrets. He did all this from Pakistan(our supposed ally) where he is subjected to "lifetime 24 hour house arrest". Most recent reports indicate Iraq refused Dr Abdul's latest overtures to sell nuclear secrets because he feared a sting operation in the run up to the war. Who the heck knows the whole truth with the state of our inteligence operations in this country and what is actually reported to the public. However, it seems pretty clear that Dr. Abdul hasn't done any favors for global nuclear security.

I was against the war from the start, speculating what if, to try and justify it, is the stupidest thing ever.. thats what losers do.. so bottom line, hopefully we can get everyone out of there ASAP.

All this is, is just another Crusade..
It depends how u intrepret history but u can say..

either A) the muslims always do something to piss of the Christians.. in the old days, the muslims tried conquoring all of europe etc.. which led to crusades..
now they blow up the trade centers and with their war like rhetoric cause another crusade on them..

or B) it was all done for money.. the pope wanted glory, money, blah blah whatever, or in this case Bush wanted OIL or whatever..

In both cases, past and present, its incredibly draining on economies and lots of lives were lost.. and from what i've been taught in school, this now being thousand years after the crusades... in the end it looks like they paint the crusaders as the bad guys.. so down the road we will definetly be the bad guys, thats guaranteed.

Well I think the cost is way more than anyone should have spent the cost was loosing lots of young men & women who were brothers sisters & fathers & mothers & sons & daughters & the list goes on I cant imagine how horrible that is too loose someone in the senseless war it must be awful. I am thankful in that I didnt know anyone who went over thier my grandpas were both in the wars although they made it back safely alot of others didnt alot were killed & alot were severly injured!!

Yah they dont even talk about how many have been decapitated in the war..
they just mention the Dead number..
but whats the number of all the people that lost their limbs but are still living..???

The winners and losers here may not be known in your lifetime. As far as being the bad guys, ask the Germans and Japanese who the bad guys are post WW2. There were whiners then who said we shouldn't have gotten involved. In those two wars, however, we decimated their adult male population, making pacification easier. In this war, an enforcement action of the terms of surrender in the first Gulf war, we concluded major military operations without doing the same. Now, those who are left to resist along with foreign insurgants plague us and may do so for a very long time. We are still in Germany, Japan, and South Korea years after combat ceased "over there".
