  • Has anybody wrapped Christmas gifts for extra cash?

My wife and I hate wrapping gifts, so I usually get the full brunt of them since she knocks out most of the gift shopping. I can't complain about it though because I hate fighting traffic at the malls more than gift wrapping.

Had a eureka thought tonight as I was trudging through the wrapping paper....would people pay to have their gifts wrapped for them? I know department stores offer gift wrapping services, but that's only for the gifts that people buy in their store I believe. Surely we're not the only people that hate to wrap gifts? Has anyone tried this before? I thought of making up a quick flier and putting it on people's doors in the neighboorhood, but then thought, "what if little Suzie gets the 'I'll wrap your Christmas presents for you' flier which in turn spoils the whole Santa concept for her." Would I have throngs of neighbors throwing flaming bottles through my windows?

Just wondering if anybody had tried this before and what their thoughts on it were. Hope everybody has a blessed and merry Christmas!

HAHAH.... i've thought of starting the same business this season - theres an aleve commercial out (i think its aleve?) where the woman is a professional wrapper who has pain due to arthritis...she "goes to peoples houses and wraps gifts". I thought it was brilliant even if it is just a commercial story line! :-D

I saw that too! I was thinking it would be a great business to get into!
But, everyone in our town is just as broke as I am, I doubt they'd pay for it. LOL

But, if you did it right, you could purchase all the wrapping paper and boxes on clearance after Christmas so you could have a low start up cost for doing it next year.

I know of people who do wrapping, but they have a "girl Friday" type of businesses. They do errands and stuff for people who don't have the time/gumption/etc.

I l-o-v-e wrapping presents! But I think the people who would pay for the service are few and far between except for those who will pay for it at point of purchase....But I don't think the fliers would spoil the Santa idea for little Suzie. Little Suzie probably doesn't pick up the fliers.

I used to pay my neice to wrap presents when my son was little, to keep them out of our house so he wouldn't find them. She was (is!) very entreprenurial (sp?). I loved having her do it, as I really hate wrapping. Now I live in another state but my sister still has my niece (now in college) do her wrapping.

Boyscouts does gift wrapping for a small fee. You might want to check your community for what day they will do it on. I am not sure they would be an expert on giftwrapping after all they are boys.

We were going to do this as Girl Scouts. They have a place at the mall that does it (for anything and you donate, not a specific store) and they have groups do it to earn money. Bass Pro and Cabela have it too. I guess it just depends on where you buy things.

I think most kids know there are gifts to be bought for others even if they don't know about the ones bought for themselves, so long as you didn't put anything in the flyer about little Susie's presents it should be fine.
