  • Unsolicited mail

I terminated my financial relationship with a credit union March 1, 2007
They keep sending me offers for everything from loans to credit cards
and inviting me to open accounts with them.
I have telephoned & gone in person requesting they take me off their mailing list.
Each time they assure me they will honor my request.
Their unwelcomed mail has become harrassment.

Even though I did business with them in the past, aren't they required by law
to cease and desist when I request them to leave me alone?
I would NEVER do business with them again - why I left is another story.
    It's been over 9 months!
Where can I file a complaint against them?
    federal, state (Texas) ?

I did some online searching and couldn't find what I think I need
I did find this I might try
    anybody ever used this?
found at the DMA web site (Direct Markreting Association)
they have an online form for help getting off company-specific mailing
lists - not the same as registering with MPS which cost $1.00
simple form you fill in online then mail in
just put the http: and //www in front of the rest of this dmachoice.org/consumers/complaintform.doc

....i know how you feel, as i have stuff like that being sent to me. my first house loan (march of 2006) closed on march 31 and within 3 weeks it was sold to another company...and has been sold twice since i think..lol. I STILL received unsolicited junk mail from companies that mention my first bank and the loan we closed with!! its everything from mortgage insurance to life insurance to consolidation loans to home equity loans to a promise of better rates with *their* bank (whoever they may be). im not even sure who to contact as every one is from different lender each time - so apparantly that first bank sold our information to a multitude of others. its annoying, so thank God for shredders! maybe i'll try the form online at that link...

      I had the same problem.

I wrote a letter to the company (and made a copy of it) I said that I wanted off of their mailing lists immediately. I realize that it takes awhile to get it processed through the computers, so I would give them 90 days. If, after that time, I still received unwanted mail from them, I would take further action. I did get a letter from them with confirmation that they received my request and I would be taken off of their list. They did try to make it sound really nice and said that they would miss me as a customer and would like to know if they could do anything to get me to return.

I also went to an opt-out site and haven't gotten cc, insurance, or other offers in over a year. It has been REALLY nice!!!!

      Good luck!

I had this problem with Columbia House music club awhile back. I had quit and they kept mailing me stuff to try to get me to come back. They did stop sending me stuff though. What worked? Without opening their mail I put one line through my mailing address, wrote "REFUSED - RETURN TO SENDER" on the outside of the envelope, and plopped that sucker back in the mailbox. They have to pay return postage on it. Needless to say they quit mailing me stuff pretty quickly. I'm doing the same thing with a corporate seminar provider that has sold my name and sends me flyers two to three times a week. I also tried asking them first to take my name off their mailing lists.

My problem this past summer was with a local daily newspaper that every Thursday would drop a plastic bag of coupons, inserts and basically junk mail on my driveway and everyone's driveway.

I was able to stop it for many years only becus i happened to run into the delivery person on my street, and she nicely honored my request, but she apparently left that job cus this summer it started again.

I called and emailed the circulation manager about 4 times, then got fed up and emailed the PUBLISHER of the paper. Believe it or not, despite his courteous reply that he'd take care of it, it continued. So i persisted, this time leaving a phone message for him. I mean, what does it say about management of a paper when they can't seem to get the word down to the low guy on the totem pole, the delivery person.

I left an email to that effect and finally, the stuff stopped coming. M advice would be to be persistent and keep going up the food chain if the 1st contact you make is unresponsive.

The trouble with these unsolicited mails or spams is that they always know a way to get around the rules. There are companies that write to me saying that I opted in. But bet I know I didn't. To frustrate your gut out, they also have a link for opting out which of course, doesn't work. Then you go to their website but the contact info is missing or doesn't work. So at the end of day it is much easier to delete these wretched posts rather than to find somebody to complain about them.
