  • Memorial Day plans

What's everyone doing tomorrow (or today, rather, by the time most people read this)?

My mom and I are going shopping in the morning to replace a broken set of trimmers and to hit the Mennonite bulk store. We plan to go to a parade at 3 pm - it will be nice to take the boys and let them see what the holiday is about. Other than that, I have a lot to do at home, like finish planting the garden and some general housekeeping.

BBQ at my sister's house: she just moved in last weekend. Memorial Day is one of the two traditional hot dog days in my family (the other being Labor Day). The rest of the year, we just can't stomach them!

Seriously? I love hot dogs...I could eat them every week, but I just know how awful they are...so I limit them a bit more. Hoffman hot dogs are a NY specialty - maybe they are why we love them so much up here.

      Enjoy the day!

We hope to hit a home improvement store to look at new countertops and just relax before the work week starts.

We took flowers to cemeteries earlier in the weekend for our rememberances. It appears that only people 45 or older do that where I live. I wonder if this tradition will die out?

We are hanging out at home. We might go and get ice cream later. It will depend on if the rain holds off.

We had our cookout on Saturday and we need the day of rest. I am working on the church newsletter today and several other church items.

Going to one of our older sons' home for a swim and dessert. I made a jelled vanilla pudding ice box pie that we'll top w/strawberries. We did the florals to the cemeteries on Mother's day weekend.

Working in the garden and yard. DH is working today. We had a family dinner yesterday, so we are good to go. I thought once about taking the girls to the lake to go swimming, but I got on the website and saw the lake temp was only 68 degrees, so I didn't even mention it to them.

We attended the Memorial Day services and then I spent the morning making potato salad, baked beans and deviled eggs. We'll barbecue hot dogs later.

DH and DD#2 took the canoe out and just got back.

We will spend the evening sitting on the deck and watching the creek flow by. Then we will cook bar b que ribs and hamburgers. Maybe we will dance like we did last night after dinner.

It's raining a gentle rain (for once not a gully washing rain) and cool. Hubby is driving back from a trip out of town to see the kids. I'm not feeling too chipper so I put the last of the chicken in the crock pot, made some cookies that make the kitchen smell wonderful, and am reading and resting. Even the dogs are lazing around today. Thoughts go out to our soldiers and all those who should be remembered on this day.

I worked. Usually I work 6 hours on a Monday but because it's Memorial day, I was scheduled for 8. I got an additional 20 minutes of overtime in, which was nice.
