• Poverty In America

cnn.money.com has written a special report on Poverty In America and how the face of poverty is changing. An excellent series of articles that is well worth the read if you have the time.

Interesting...and very sad. How can a nation as rich as we are let situations like this occur?

Welfare, too many people get the fish but aren’t taught how to fish. That and the articles facts are a bit misleading, I worry about feeding my family too, but compared to real poverty I live like a queen in a mansion

I'd have to agree with PrincessPerky. If you compare us to most of the world, our poorest are doing very well. If you look at the living standards of the Amish, our poor would look pretty good too. My neighbor can't afford much for her children for Christmas. But only if you compare to our society's extravagance. There are a lot of groups proposing "No Spend Christmas". So if you look at it this way, she is teaching her children the true meaning of Christmas. Instead of the merchants winning, she wins by keeping more of her money.

Joe Domingues, author of Your Money or Your Life, voluntarily lived what most considered poverty. It is just a matter of one's perspective.
