  • So Yesterday Creditors Froze my account....

Considering the circumstances, I am in good spirits,

I was aware of this debt, but I don't understand how they can raise it from $2,240 to $2, 700 in only two months.

The Bank and the creditors said I will need to pay $2,700 to release the account. I will not get paid till Monday, and I had a transfer set up from my online bank, which should take about 2-3 days.

I am willing to pay this debt so It can finally get out of my hair once and for all, but I am a little concerned...

Once I have the money in my frozen checking account to cover the payment of the debt, do I need to worry about them digging or freezing up my account again?

What steps should I take to make sure these same creditors will NOT do this again once it's paid off?

As of right now, I will live off $30

Have you checked your credit report to make sure that this is the only one that you owe? I would ask them for a letter stating the exact amount that it would take to pay it off and when it will be due.

If you get a letter and you pay it off, I would think that if any future action occurs from them that you can send in a letter to the bureau stating your facts and what you did.

Also, how old is this debt? Is it close to 7 years old?

Actually the debt is prob about 3-4 yrs old and the damaged was done by my Ex-girlfriend, not me, so go figure... I am still responsible for paying it off. Besides my student loans, thats the only thing I have over my head.

Two months ago I actually spoke to these guys willing to pay the $2240. I asked them to send me the agreement in writing via fax and or mail. They did neither!

I was kinder my mistake because once I didn't get the fax or mail. I kinder forgot about it, I had some issue I had to deal with and it slipped my mind.

Now out of nowhere, they froze my account, kinder feels like hostage.

        I'll say one thing though.

You guys on here helped me a great deal with saving. and if I never started a savings account, I would have been lost and in BIG TROUBLE. Thank god I was smart enough to start an online savings account.

I mean its taking like three days to get that money transfered to my checking account, but I can't imagine if I didn't have the funds at all.

I would have used a Credit card to pay off this, but unfortunately, I DON'T HAVE ANY CREDIT CARDS ANY MORE .

I guess the account will stay frozen until Mid-nextweek. Once my paycheck and my online transfer clear, I will make the payment and get it in writing of course!!!!

The fact that they weren't willing to send you something in writing doesn't quite sound right. If I were you, I would seek some legal help. I'm sure that there is an attorney on this forum that could advise you. Your problem is that this is affect you for a long time and it might pop up when you need a loan or anything for that matter.

If you agreed to pay them and they werent willing to give you something in writing just doesn't sound right at all. Did you document when you spoke with them, who you with, the date, and even the time? Every little bit of documentation helps in cases like this.

Well, the thing is, they were "willing" to send it in writing, but they never did. Whats funny is, when I called, the guy knew my Fax #, but he didn't want to take responsibility for not sending the fax or to my home address.

Instead, in typical collector fashion, said, it was my responsibility to follow up, which is true.

These people are crazy, and is really inconveniencing my life.. I just want to get it paid off so they leave me the hell alone.

Yes, it is your responsibility to follow up, but when your request someone to send something to you and they don't is their responsiblity. But, I know what you mean about wanting to just get it paid off.

We had some medical bills from surgery that ended up in the insurance commissioners office because they weren't paying what they should have and was nickel and diming the providers. In the end, the insurance commissioners agent had them pay more on the surgeions bill and I like you didn't want to mess anymore with it. It had dragged on for a long time and it wansn't fair to the providers to keep waiting. So, I know where you're coming from. Sometimes, it's just OK to chalk it up to an experience learned and for me to ask more questions in the future about what the providers wll except in payment. So, I just paid the remaining couple of bills and I do feel better about it.

yes, I understand what you mean. It feels good to get something like that off your chest, even though it will cost a good amount, you just have to take it stride and move on. It's very important to learn from your mistakes. Life is a serious game where you have to make adjustments, when you make mistakes. In the short run, it will cost, but in the long run it will benefit you.

My only concern now, is paying them off and hopefully they don't come up with anything crazy where they would freeze my account again. this is very new to me, and it's amazing how freezing your checking account can mess up someone's life.

BUT, I will pay up either Tuesday or Monday once the funds clear. Its funny direct deposits and other transfers goes into your checking account but you can't touch any of it, crazy.

To be truthful, this has never happened to me, but if I were you, I would go and open up a new checking account in a different bank. I have checking accounts in several banks.

Do you suggest I pay off what I owe first, then open another checking account?

SavingMonster: Ima gave good advice. Why do you think they can come after you and freeze your accounts again after you have paid them?

I definitely would not pay ANYONE unless I would get a balance that would satisfy your amount owed. If I were you, I might start a post entitled NEED LEGAL ADVICE. Then, refer them to your earlier post and explain the situation again. Sometimes when you make a subject more specific, you get more responses. We do have some really smart people on this board that may be able to direct you to where you need to go. But, again, I do like Ima's suggestion. How did they know about your bank account to be able to freeze it and what would keep them from freezing another account?

To be honest with you, I am not sure why they would come back and freeze my account again once I paid off anything. No reason for them to do that. But just a little worried, maybe I shouldn't worry.

Thanks, that is what I will do then. Thanks, Ima saver.
