  • George Bush on American Idol

I love it the way everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon when something's going really well.

I like seeing many well-known musicians appear on American Idol, like Bon Jovi last night, as well as others, Diana Ross, etc.

The show attracts huge audiences, and raised, what was it, $70 million in donations for children living in poverty here and around the world?

So then George and Laura Bush appear on Idol last night, thanking Americans for making these donations. But what's he got to do with it? Absolutely nothing! Makes it seem as if he had some part in it.

He'd like nothing better than to watch private Americans make donations to all kinds of social causes on their own becus he wants to lower taxes for all his wealthy friends and leave it to middle income Americans, struggling themselves, to take care of the less fortunate. That way, he can funnel even more of our tax dollars into a civil war we created and will never be able to fix: Iraq.

It was originally used to describe the episode in which a TV series had hit its peak and for whatever reason is on it's way down the tubes. The classic example is an episode of Happy Days when Fonzie literally jumped over a shark when he was surfing. At that point the show had become a parody of itself.

I would argue once the President of the United States appears on American Idol, our country has jumped the shark.

Darned if you do, darned if you don't. The President is the Figure head of our country whether you like him or not. Presidents make appearances at all kinds of things. You would think people would be happy that he involved himself in the pop culture that has swept the nation. But, the naysayers will always tell us why it was "wrong".

While I am not a Bush fan in the least bit I do think that there is so much more to criticize him for than thanking people for donating to a good cause. Complaining about him doing something like this just gives Fox news more reasons to say how unjust people are being to the Bush administration. Instead where is the discussion of how Katrina is still being handled or not handled. How many are still in trailers or homeless! I won't even mention the handling of the war oh wait I think he declared that over awhile ago. I guess what I am trying to say is if showing up on Idol is the worst thing he had done then are country would be a much safer place.

The only thing I'd like to see Bush on is his way out.

Katrina - Yes, Bush should "blink" and make it all better. It takes years and years to rebuild. Those who don't understand this need to go down there themselves and do some building.

I think as leader of our country he has far more important things to do than appear on AI to thank everyone. He only did it in the hope that some of that warm fuzzy feeling would somehow rub off on him becus of his (albeit) brief association with it.

How long did it take him to appear? So what? What is wrong with saying "thank you"? Sheesh!

OOOOO.......I missed that episode. I must see this on rerun. I hope this is on youtube.

There is nothing wrong with charities. They are generally much more efficient than governmental programs. In fact, if everyone tithes like us we might even be able to get rid of some social programs. If Bush wants everyone to tithe so he can get rid of some governmental programs, he has every right to do so. After all, he is the leader of the free world (and with France electing a pro-Bush president, the free world would view Bush more favorably).

Gosh, I must have worked for the beaucracy for the last ten years. There had never been a more wasteful entity. If we want to help the poor, donations pack a bigger bang for the buck than taxes.

I love Bush, but that is just my personal opinion.....and I am a Texan.
