How about staying at a hotel/motel that serves a continental breakfast in the morning. I would rather stay at a cheap motel and pack cereal boxes and fruit. If you have to have milk you can get that cheap in a small container at a local grocery store or supercenter (just don't buy the donuts there!!)

I don't actually mind when people waste money trying to save money. As far as I know, there is no greater gift than the feeling of having the purpose. As long as people know the importance of saving money, and they feel purposeful, the purpose will make them happy.
As long as people are happy, they are good to go. I mean, anything that makes them happy has got to save thousands on therapist costs.
Some people just have to make their own mistakes.....as long as their intentions are good, they will eventually find a way to do the right thing.

To me, waste money is when you purchase items that are not in your "need" list. You buy it because when you see it, you are tempted that you want it and you straight away purchase it. This is what we call impulse buying. Later on, you realize that you don't need it actually and you never use the item at all!
In another hand, wise spending is when you know that you want and need the item, you list it down in your need list and have calculated your budget beforehand, before you go to the outlet and make the purchase. After purchase, you use the item and rank your satisfaction of the item vs. the price you paid for.
However, as we go along in life, we do make mistake in our spending and budgeting. But we will never learn if we don't make mistake at all rite? Only fools repeat the same mistake again and again.
In reply to this post, in my honest opinion, people tend to waste money when:
1. They purchase second hand items because they tend to think it is cheaper, cost saving and economical. Some second hand items are not worth buying. What they don't consider is the cost that will incur later on e.g. maintenance, the "in good use" period and how long will it take to replace a new item later.
2. Buying low quality items at a very cheap price. This is based on my experience itself. I bought one cheap mug, it looks attrractive but only last for few days! Later it cracked and shattered. And later I have to buy a new mug. Sigh...

As for the furniture, I have a decent size home. I don't have alot of "matching furniture". I am just not a good decorator and right now do not have the time or interest to match drapes, look for accessories, etc. It is just not my thing. I like have a larger home because it gives us more room. We have 3 kids and it is nice to have the space. I am sure alot of people see my "stuff" and think I could do a better job at decorating. Next year my daughter will be going to K so I will have more time during the day to focus on that.
