Re: how Much do you Shop Online?

Hmmm.... very very rare that I buy online. I'm the sort who doesn't like to pay for shipping & pay for shipping again to return the items if I don't like it + the time standingn in line @ the USPS, I need to be able to touch stuff to decided.

Plus since clothes & shoes ect don't always follow the same standard sizing charts you never know if something is going to fit right or be more sheer than you thought it would be & so forth.

I have only ever bought a few things online, mostly halloween costumes! I know very little about computers.

I usually do a good deal of my online shopping at ebay or Ticketmaster. Mostly it's just used books or cd's at ebay although Ticketmaster has gotten their fair share of "convenience fees" out of me over the years The biggest (and most expensive, $3500) thing I've ever bought online was my drumset which I bought off of ebay from someone in Washington State. It was a little nerve-racking tracking it's progress across the US but everything turned out fine.

I try to limit shopping--period. BUT, I probably do ~50% of my planned purchases online. I feel like I can find better deals and have more choices. An example is a purse I recently bought online. I had been wanting a new purse for a few months, but the purses in my local department stores either weren't appealing to me or cost >$40. I looked on eBay, and found 100's of choices. I ended up being the sole bidder on a purse for $3.99, after shipping and handling, I had the bag for under $9. Unless the store was havin an amazing sale, there's no way I could have bought this bag i n a store for < $30. Granted, the bag was used, but you couldn't tell. Besides, I like like buying second hand stuff. It feels good to know you're extending the life of an item.

Online is also great when you need a very specific item, particularly if you live a locale with limited shopping options. I attended a wedding and wanted a pashmina to wear in church that would match my dress. My department store may have had a suitable one, but I was able to get one off eBay without wasting time at the store, and most likely, at a lower price.

There are certain things I buy online such as tea, books, Dvd's and such when I do but them. I like to buy from stores on-line that have actual locations where you can return merchandise. Eeastern Mountain Sports is such a store.

I'm still in the baby stages of online shopping but I definately see the advantages.

Just today I bought liquid vitamins from the Vitamin Shoppe and used a $10 off $40 coupon code plus I shopped thru the fatwallet link and I used a cashback cc. Sales tax was only 32 cents and shipping was $2.99. Had I gone in person I would have spent more on regular sales tax plus wasted my time and gas! Forgot to mention - they have a rewards card program too! Only 100 points needed to get a $5 certificate good on next years shopping!

Amazon is another one. If you get their cc you and buy from Amazon you get triple points. I think 2500 pts gets you a $25 Amazon gc. Guess where I buy my books and small electrical appliances from?

Books, CDs, Garden Seeds, tickets at Ticketmaster, gifts at Harry & David, gifts at Hale's Grove, airline travel, hotel rooms, flea and tick medicine for the cats, clothing from Land's End overstocks.
My latest purchase was a huge bottle of Biofreeze from Amazon. Even with the hefty shipping charge the overall purchase was about 60% less than what I'd pay at my chiropractor's office.

Definitely use bizrate.com, pricegrabber.com and the like for comparing before I burn up alot of fuel driving around!!

And used books are not to be gotten elsewhere for specific titles, ie children's (My little Pony, budget travel to Costa Rica)

Finally great for kids toys such as when it's a surprise and don't want to take them or it's just a bunch of USED Pokemon cards...

I like purchasing online more often than offline since I can froogle the prices, find the best deals, use fatwallet, get discounts, etc. The internet is great for *unusual* purchases you cant find anywhere else also (i.e. the soapsgonebuy website for making homemade laundry detergent). Ebay is great for inexpensive brand name clothes. Books are best bought online too because you can find them cheaper.

There are some things i dont buy though are perishables (groceries), things too heavy that the shipping is outrageous, things i can get a mile from home for the same price minus shipping, anything from walmart.com (walmart is 1 mile from me), etc.
+1 - my response would be pretty much exactly like yours. =] except, I'm 26.

I do about 50% of my shopping online, 20% at thrift/garage sale/swap meet, 20% at big box retailers (i.e. Walmart, KMART, etc. but usually only on clearance items...) and 10% at the grocery store/99 cent store. The computer is great for books, music, clothing, shoes, unique items, jewelry, anything that is not very heavy---shipping and handling is what defeats most internet deals. I also use sites that offer free shipping and ebates so I get some of my purchase price back.
