We were at Commerce Bank yesterday and I asked the teller for one to give to my daughter. She said they won't have them until this Tuesday. So they have technically been released, but they apparently haven't actually been shipped out to banks yet.

They've been trying to get rid of the paper bills especially the 1's for years. I just don't know that it'll happen unless they cut down the amount of paper $1 they print & gradually eliminate it rather than have them for vending machines so they can make change for larger bills. I know it's all about the longevity of paper vs coin & the cost to produce it.

when I worked in a bank when the previous $1 coin was released I don't recall seeing them for a few weeks & we had to special order them to boot. Mind you I handed 1 to most of my normal customers & they just look @ you crazy like what's this???? & a few think it's neat expecially if they are the customers you keep your eyes open for the state quarters as they come out for them.

Oh I forgot to answer Lux's Q.... usually retailers get the new coins before the banks do as they go thru more coin than banks do depending on the bank or credit union of course.
