  • The most expensive thing you have bought for yourself

I'm not talking about cars and houses here. What is the most expensive thing you have ever bought for yourself personally? I'm wondering because I had a friend show me her $7500 coat that she bought for herself this weekend. I know they don't have the money and I have know idea what she is thinking. My jaw was left hanging open.

I think the most I've ever spent is $500 on a really nice set of place settings. I can't even imagine spending that kind of money on a coat (that will only be worn a few times at most).

That must be one nice coat. It cost about the same as my car!

I bought myself a beautiful necklace that I had wanted for a long time that was about $600. That is probably the most I have ever spent on myself.

Umm zero, but my husband on the other hand is in the habit of buying really nice stuff, umm was. I have he hardest time reigning him in.

Anyway I have a gorgeous set of rings, and neclace and errings to match around 500 for the set. bought in the pre baby days! well maybe one kid. We didn't get it all at once.

A few months ago I bought myself a $1500 Digital SLR camera. It was one of those moments when I became possessed by the "I gotta have it" and "I deserve it" demons. I am really into portrait photography and would love to use that camera to make some money- that was my justification. We ended up carrying our Visa debt a few months longer because of that grand purchase. On the brighter side, Dh didn't have to buy me a birthday present and isn't buying me anything for Christmas because I consider that my gift for both occasions.

Well, aside from my mattress that was $600 last month... (Yuck), the most expensive thing was probably my digital camera as well, which was about $200. I've both things more expensive, but have always ended up returning them. I just feel so guilty. My most expensive suit is about $140. Maybe I deserve a treat!

I can't recall buying myself anything that expensive although I have received some gifts that have been expensive. The silver tableware set was the most expensive. I think it was close to $1000

Everyone's purchase seem a bit more reasonable than my friend's coat. Although it is a beautiful coat, I still can't believe she would pay that much. If they were very wealthy it would be a different matter, but they have quite a bit of credit card debt and a huge house payment. granted, her husband makes a nice salary, but if it is all going to paying off purchases like that, they are going to have some real trouble down the raod. How do you warn someone like that?

I don't think you can, spnding is like a drug, you have to want to change yourself.

But if it was my friend I would prolly mention the cost of a coat like that on my credit card (never theirs) In a joking kind of wow way.

Trips: I love to travel and could easily spend $3500 on a three week trip. I don't charge them though

I did, when I must have been dilusional, purchase a pair of shoes for 500.00. Had to have them. I have over 300 pair so they had to go with the collection. But sadly, they had to be disposed of within a year. The material deteriorated for some strange reason and the company wouldn't refund my money. Some shoes in my collection I've had since the early 80's and they are just fine and get worn at least once a year.

My most expensive item was purchased for the low-low. I have a mink that the original owner paid 10,000 for, but desparate times call for desparate measures and I brought it from her for 100 bux. Couldn't pass up on that deal. And yes, I have the original receipt, she paid 10 grand for it!

I really think that is what is going to happen to my friend, but she is going to be on the selling end. She'll wear it once (maybe) and when their finances are in terrible shape, she is going to have to sell it for a fraction of the price she paid for it.

It will be a bargain for someone else (just as in your case).

Let me know when she wants to liquidate.... Actually thats the way I get a lot of things. I sit like a vulture and keep friends who like to live like the jones'. But funny, when they need money, they come to me with their goods.

lol. I think I may be in line in front of you if the deal is as good as the one you got!
