The most expensive thing you have bought for yourself
Re: The most expensive thing you have bought for yourself
I bought a $5600 motorscooter. Unless you meant to exclude all motorized transportation. Then I'd say my big splurge for myself was my Trek bicycle. Unless you meant to exclude any transportation with wheels. Then I'd say it was my Dell Computer circa 1997.
Re: The most expensive thing you have bought for yourself
Last Christmas, I gifted myself a Dell XPS M1210 Notebook ($1,199.00). It was worth buying since it was an investment to consider. This Christmas I just plan to give myself a simple treat to JDs. No more gadgets! puleez

Springfield Armory M1A Scout Rifle. I paid about 1600 dollars. I am an avid shooter and it was a real extravagant indulgence! I love it though!
At the risk of sounding like a "gear queer" (I didn't make up that term), I like the SOCOM. I've got a unhealthy fixation for Picatinny rails. My last rifle was a Bushmaster AR though. Nicely outfitted, but not over-the-top.
I'm friends with a guy who customized his own M14. Very sweet. Very heavy.
But anyways, since I sold all my big boy toys and is starting over, I'd have to say that my mattress is the most expensive thing I've bought so far. As expensive as it was, it's still a small price to pay for a good night's rest. It should eventually become a good value too, outlasting conventional mattresses....
Re: The most expensive thing you have bought for yourself
I think the most expensive thing I have ever bought myself was a keyboard. It cost about $100.00. I can't play it but someday I will. I've had it for years (like 6 or 7 and DS2 loves to play with it)
Re: The most expensive thing you have bought for yourself
I lived on a ship for a while and since I'm really petite (I didn't know of Tractor supply or Cabella's) I got foul-weather gear at a sailing store. It was pretty expensive, $600 for pants, coat, and boots, and that was on sale! However I used it all that season and the next two years outside and they've never leaked or ripped. So I think it was worth it, although every once in a while I still choke on that price.

Two pairs of diamond earrings, (not at the same time, though!) One was princess cut, the other was shaped like a flower. I used to work near the jewelry counter at a dept store and I waited for them to go on clearance with store discount. Still, it was about $900 for the 2 pairs.

I'll bet they were pretty though. I suppose I can agree with ONE thing about diamonds on a woman. Unlike the mechanical gadgets and electronic toys we boys like, diamonds don't break or become obsolete.
Re: The most expensive thing you have bought for yourself
This is an interesting thread.
A couple things come to mind after reading thru some of the previous responses.
-Our new mattress ("sleep number" bed) last year was about $1200.
-I also bought myself a wedding band with diamonds since my engagement ring no longer fit after the wedding. It cost me about $800 but I paid it off in monthly payments (like layaway at the local jeweler so no interest or anything). I wear it everyday and still love it.
-Do dental hygiene school tuition/books/instruments/licensure exams count?! All told I probably will spend about $5000-6000 out of my pocket before I am done. I really think this one counts as an investment in my future though, as I should be making at least double what I was before I began!
Re: The most expensive thing you have bought for yourself
