    I was wondering if any one knows if I can claim my mother on my taxes, I thought you can claim an elderly dependant, however I am not sure of the form

        I couldn't even tell you off the top of my head, because they are so convoluted for one, and they just changed too.

        Overall I think you can BUT she has to live with you. That is a new rule that is a thorn in everyone's side. Before if you supported someone they did not have to live with you to get the deduction. Has created some pretty grey areas for parents in nursing homes and children in mental care facilities, etc. Happy Reading.

          The person also has to have an annual income of some ridiculously low amount. Just over $3,000 per year. So if mom has social security or other income of over $500 per month, then you can't claim her.
