    Re: Let's Lose a Person!

i've been eating mainly healthy, lots of fruits and veggies, grilled chicken, water etc... unfortunately we've also ended up eating some leftovers that FIL brought home that were gonna get tossed out... our frugal souls hate wasting food so we end up eating it... although we're trying to curb that... still, last week it was chinese food and just yesterday we each had a slice of pizza...
unfortunately i've been having a hard time tracking my progress as well...my weight has been fluctuating a lot from day to day... i've seen a difference of as much as 4 lbs from one day to the next... i know it helps to weigh myself consistantly and i try to do so before breakfast every day but i still seem to go up and down depending on what i ate that day... i think it's probably water weight because i have some days where i drink a lot and some days where i don't...

The problem with many low fat foods is that they are high in sugar or salt. Both of which are only needed in small quantities. In Australia we have strict packaging label laws where companies must supply nutritional information. Such as energy, protein, fat total and saturated, carbohydrates, sugar, sodium etc. NOt sure if US is the same.

As a general rule to make healthier choices for every 100g of product there should be
      Sugars 5g or less
      Total Fat 10g or less
      Sodium 345g or less.

We have started going through our cupboard. One tick for each criteria is given. Three ticks is the best. Any product that doesn't get at least 2 ticks goes and we find a replacement for it. Usually just means changing brands. So far we have changed peanut butter brands and chicken biscuit brands. A lot of the major fast food chains have nutritional information on their websites as well.

I have discovered that there are some so called "healthy" food that isn't really healthy at all. Such as "All Natural Fruit Straps". Failed both sugar and sodium level tests. Yes it is naturally occuring sugar but sugar is sugar no matter where is comes from. On the flip side foods like "fun" kids breakfast cereal is fine. At the moment we have Choco Balls and fruity rings and they both passed. Much to my children's delight.

I have found that by doing this I don't feel deprived because I am still eating the same types of foods. As for going out it happens so rarely that I just eat what I want. Guilt free.

            Re: Let's Lose a Person!

I haven't lost anything in 3 weeks. I have been watching what I eat. I'm doing pretty well with that. I could do better but I don't want to feel like I'm punishing myself. I know that I have to exercise. I haven't been to the gym in a week b/c of the cold. I don't like getting hot from the exercise and then go out to the parking lot in the freezing cold. Big Baby, I know. The good news is that I have kept the 4 original pounds off. Todays weight remains at 154lbs. Ht 5'8. Would like to be 140-145lbs.

I've heard alot about the metabolism problem is why a lot of people don't lose weight. Sometimes I think that in the beginning that you need to eat what your body needs in calories to raise your metabolism so that you can burn the calories more efficiently. To offset the calories in the beginning, you can do some kind of exercise like walking or weeding your garden. Just something that would compensate for the food eaten in the beginning and maybe just make the food that you eat healthy food at that.

My problem is I have never eaten healthy. I have had a food problem since I was a baby. I like very few foods. I did lose weight on the low carb diet however.

I walked an hour on the treadmill today at the gym and burned 538 calories!! I generally try to hit at least 300 calories burned each time I go. This week I hit at least 400 everyday. I was watching the Good Will Hunting on TV so that helped the time go much faster.

To avoid getting cold after a workout, I hit the sauna for about 10 minutes. That really warms up your body and when you do leave the cold doesn't seem that bad.

I lost another 0.6 lbs this week! Yay!

I didn't get as much exercise in as usual - mainly because of my fitness class last Monday night where I ran/walked 15 laps in 12 minutes + getting used to my new elliptical machine.

So far this week I'm doing much better with my exercise -back on track.

                          Good job FrugalTexan!

I weighed in today. I lost 3.4 pounds this week. I was a bit shocked...but I'll take it!

I really bumped up the workouts to make sure that I hit at least 400 calories burned on my cardio. I do that at least 5 days a week. I'm also lifting weights at least 3 or 4 days.

Keep up the good work everyone!

For British people, I am now below 12 stone. For Americans, this means I weigh 167. Yay! 6 pounds lost! Over halfway to my goal!

Actually, I wouldn't mind getting down to 160, but I'll see if I can keep the 10 lb off first.
