  • Scan checks at home for deposit!

Can you believe this? USAA Bank allows members to scan their checks for deposit at home. No need to mail anything in! You can see a demo here.

I may have to try this first with one of my $5.00 Pinecone survey checks. Has any other USAA member tried this?

Bank of America has what it calls a "remote deposit service" which allows users to scan their checks for deposit. I think BOA's focus has been to encourage businesses to use this service. BOA may even be providing dedicated scannners for this purpose. "Ain't technology great!" It'd be interesting to hear anybody's personal experience w/the process.

That's pretty neat! But I have direct deposit, and rarely write checks anymore.

I'm a USAA member and deposit all my checks at home.
Being a freelancer, it is perfect for me.
Kind of neat to be sitting at the computer at midnight in my PJ's and putting money in my account!
It is so simple too, and if you need help customer service is the best!
          I love USAA! .

Glad to know it works. And you just use your own home scanner right?

I noticed that you have to have their credit card or a loan with them to use it. I assume this is a credit check of some sort or a way to charge you for the money if the check wasn't legit.

I wasn't planning on getting a credit card....what would I then be called here on this board?

My husbands paycheck is direct deposited as well. But I get the pinecone survey checks, rebate checks and occassionally a gift of money from my parents...usually a check. Since there is no USAA ATM here, we have to mail them in.

One of the things I LOVE about USAA is they listen and are flexible.
I wasn't eligible for deposit at home, but I called them and explained my situation. I don't have a credit with them or anyone else. I won't go into detail about my situation, but I suggest if you don't want a credit card, but want deposit at home call them and ask. All they can say is no, and they may say yes to you like they did me.

I use my scanner and you need high speed internet too.
It is so simple to set up and use. Once you have it, you are hooked! It's terrific!

Re: Scan checks at home for deposit!

There are a few credit union ATM machines on my work campus. I do not have a need for home scanners.

I wonder if this opens more opportunities for theives?

Re: Scan checks at home for deposit!

This has been common practice for businesses for a short while. I have 1 client anyway who uses this feature - it is really cool.

I did not know they were offering to individuals. I Would most definitely sign up - I don't like going to bank. Historically I have mailed deposits but lately mail has issues - for the long-term I Saw myself going to the bank more. But what a nice solution.

Why can't you just deposit them into any old ATM? Usually you don't get charged for ATM deposits typically just w/d's depending on your financial institutions fee schedule.

That's a neat idea, but there isn't anywhere I don't go that I can't just depost my check via ATM anyway. But I guess if you are in a rural area maybe it would be of more use?

Do you need a highspeed connection to use a service like that? As I'm on good ol' dial up
