    Re: Biggest expense?

Sure but you *have* to pay taxes so I don't technically consider it an expense more of an obligation. The most you can do is try to lower them to a certain extent by using 401K, IRA (not ROTH), various deductions etc but again you can only do so much specially if you don't own a house

You *have* to buy food too Sort of. Taxes are definitely an expense in my book - with a very large chapter.

We have 2 mortgage payments and our second mortgage is the biggest expense of all but you said after mortgage so that would be our rv payment. It's only $454 so it's not huge but with that and a lot of other smaller debt payments we have a lot of payments to make each month.

Taxes are my biggest expense, INCLUDING MY MORTGAGE! That's how bad they are! I definitely consider them, even though I can't do too much more about it.

Excluding Mortgage and TAXES, transportation is the largest expense (Car payment, Insurance, Registration, Maintenance, and let us not foget Gasoline).

Debt payments right now - student loan, car and cc bills.

Last year, my biggest expense was health insurance, even before the mortgage.

If you look at each individual line, the 3 above tie with gasoline, groceries and "miscellaneous" (dh's toys, cleaning items, gifts, etc).

                        Re: Biggest expense?

After the obligatory TAXES, I would say that my biggest expense is Groceries/Household (jumping from $400 last month to $600 this month for a family of three). After that are the "pain payments" that I make for past mistakes (personal loans from long since closed credit cards). Locking the low interest rate and fixed payoff term was key, but it is something that I remind myself of every month until paid off. It's amazing how dumb some of us can be when we try to lie to ourselves about what we can live on.

                          Re: Biggest expense?

After my mortgage it would be real estate taxes. They are a whopping $400 per month (Goes into an impound account). Next would be groceries about $450, than car insurance $322 ($240 of it is for my daughters), than her car payment ($228). Hopefully she will pay her car payment this month.
