Don't fret Lori-- my parents paid $42 + tax for their tree. I think it really varies my region of the country and seller.

I got my 7' tree for $34 from a Lions Club tree stand. It's gorgeous. It makes the whole house smell so wonderful. I've considered a fake tree, but it's the smell I love.

Last year we paid about $45 from a greenhouse's "discount" tree section. I'll be finding the Lions Club again next year...

We bought an artifical tree at Mejier 3 or 4 years ago for less than $50 and it's still going strong.

I just can't bear wasting money on a live tree, plus the mess and inconvenience. But what actually really gets me is the environmental impact. I just find it so sad that so many living trees are hacked down and stuffed indoors just to serve as decorations for a few weeks.

Even in the best of cities where they mulch the trees, I still think they do us the most good living and unmolested.

But those liuve trees are planted solely to be cut down..meaning those tree farms would be put to other most likly industrial use if not needed for christmas.

There is more, but I firmly believe that a real live tree is GOOD for the environmant (though I do stick with local trees)

I found nothing against live trees, though that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

My Dh helped the guy at the christmas tree lot fix his lights that were not working and the guy gave us a tree ! JOy o joy at least 20 bucks saved ;-)woohoo

No one could guarantee the tree farms would be put to industrial use. What if they lay fallow? What if they were actual protected nature reserves/forests? Those would still provide plenty of habitat and oxygen without the other costs of live trees. I don't think that planting them just to cut them down makes it any better.

There are also other concerns like fuel and emissions from farming/harvesting, chemicals and fertilizers that some places may use, and trees that are not disposed of properly.

I wouldn't put forward the idea that live christmas trees are our biggest environmental problem, but any positive change helps. I would never go so far as to call it GOOD for the environment. The whole process is too wasteful for my comfort.

We bought our artifical tree 10 years ago. It is still going strong. We have one branch that is broken but we fill the space with a large ornament. When Christmas is over we take off the decorations and put the still assembledtree in the shed. Next Christmas we get it out. Hose it off. And when dry bring it back inside. Lazy I know. But so easy.

we purchased our built in lites xmas tree last year on clearance for $20... my brother paid $60 for the same tree, prior to xmas... it is still beautiful this year.....
