    Re: How many friends do you have?

    So how many friends do you need anyway?

    I have enough...whatever the number (to lazy to count/categorize).

      Re: How many friends do you have?

      Do you wish you had more or less of a social life social life?
      I almost missed this part.

      I like my social life just fine. I used to worry about silly things like that, but now, I just want to live my life as I see fit. No more, no less.

        Well, I love going to parties, so I wish I had more of them to go to.

          In my case it isn't lack of invitations, it is lack of time to make them/accept them!

          Ima Ill invite you to the next so you can have one more to go to It is only a 4 hour drive

            Re: How many friends do you have?

            Making more friends is a priority for me. I have more acquantances, like the women from my book club, or people at my office, but real friends that i could go to with a serious problem, i guess i would count that at 3 right now, and they are all men i formerly dated, either casually or seriously. I have more male friends than female friends, something i would like to change. Never having married, it's hard for married women with kids to relate to me, and they don't have time anyway.

            My friends include:a neighbor and ex-coworker in her 60s;
            a very dear girlfriend who i rented from when i was in my 20s on the Cape; she's in PA now and i rarely see her, but we are still very close;
            a long-term serious ex-boyfriend, and 2 nice guys i just recently met whom i didn't want to date, but they are hanging in there as friends.

            I also had a good friend from high school but that friendship ended a year ago over a very petty thing which i regret to this day but she hasn't forgiven me.

            I had a few good friends from other jobs but i neglected those friendships and they didn't live very close, and over time people tend to drift away, esp. if they're married

              Re: How many friends do you have?

              Well this Q&A has actually made me feel better as i see i'm not alone in having a somewhat limited social life. In fact, when it looked like i'd be marrying my SO, do you know what my biggest fear was? Having a traditonal church wedding where my side of the aisle would be practially empty and his side, with his big family and extended social network (cus he grew up in one town) would be full.

                Re: How many friends do you have?

                We have moved so much lately that we have friends spread all over the US. Unfortunately we hardly ever talk to them and never get together. If we travel we are going to see kids and grandkids and don't want to take the time away form them to see friends. We are finally making some local friends. Our Pastor and his wife are becoming really good friends and another couple that are also waiting to adopt are getting to that point as well.

                  I have only one close friend and she lives far away. I never felt comfortable doing things with just women. I think my husband is my best friend!!

                    Re: How many friends do you have?

                    I don't have any friends that I spend time with in this town that are not related to me.

                    In the city I am moving to, there are 2 couples I am friends with plus more family.

                    My social life is not huge but it's good enough for me, as DH and I are mostly homebodies.

                      Re: How many friends do you have?

                      We get invited to a lot of parties, I am going to 4 next month. But usually it is people that my husband has built a house for, not anyone really close.

                        Re: How many friends do you have?

                        I also find it unusual if someone has more than a few true friends. I find that the people I would call "acquaintances", other people call "friends".

                        To me a friend is someone you can call in the middle of the night, under any circumstances and they would drop everything and come running with the bail money in hand!!!

                        I consider myself blessed to have one true friend that fits this description. We have been friends since kindergarten and even though she lives across the country we know each other inside and out.

                        I had two other really close friends but have lost touch with one in the past year or so. I am trying to reach out and regain a close relationship with her though because I really miss her. The third did something that made me see that we are really not on the same path in life. I wish her well but it is okay that we have turned into acquaintances at this point.

                        I know a few people mentioned that they are not social people but would like to make more friends. I am also a homebody for the most part and fairly introverted. When I went off to college right after HS I forced myself to be more friendly when I met someone I thought might be friend material, and that is how I met my other best friend who I lost touch with. I know how hard it is, but it is worth the effort to force yourself to go out and be friendly if the person seems like your type of person and you have things in common.
