  • Willing to help??

In "paying off debt's" blog, she had a topic, "it cost more to be poor" She told about a poor lady with 2 kids who cannot afford to get the wiring fixed in her house because she can't afford it. She makes $230 a week, has no phone and no car.
Could this be a new thread about how members of this forum could help others in need?

The original poster uses the forum name "rduell" and is fairly new. Her last blog was "Sure puts things in perspective" I urge you to read it.

Julie, the only problem would be in verifying the veracity of someones dire financial situation. Someone could be scamming. I don't doubt that rduell has honestly posted a dire need of assistance but it would be hard to take care of such problems here!

I would be willing to help folks but I leave that to Jeffrey and Co. to decide.

        Re: Willing to help??

I agree Priceplus. I posted about my friend in my blog having no idea that anyone would offer to help her. I just wanted us all to be reminded of how good we really have it even if we are struggling with debt. I certainly haven't been here long and you all have no idea who I am or anything. I would have the same reservations.

I just emailed the other 2 elder's wives in my church to see if our ladies group could get together something for my friend and her kids. I'm also wondering if the men's group could take her some firewood so that she's at least assured of heat for the winter, if her house lasts that long. I don't know if anyone in our church knows much about wiring either.

rduell, that was so nice of you. I certainly hope someone in your church can help her. I am assuming that the house is pretty old.
You are right, we all have it pretty good!!
If your church takes up a collection for her, let me know.

            Re: Willing to help??

rduell, I believe I am my brothers keeper. Maybe we all can agree this holiday season to help others who are less fortunate. I have found that no matter how bad your life is there is usually someone worse off.

Let us reach out in our communities with time, money, goods, and prayers. Volunteer to help those less well off. THe rewards are far greater than money and the things it can acquire.

Personally I believe in the power of prayer. Let those who believe in the power of prayer pray! Let those who don't keep only best wishes in their hearts and a hope for positive outcomes!

I will be praying for your friend. I shall pray that she recieve the blessings she needs!

I think that is a great way to spend some of your christmas money, helping another person.

                Re: Willing to help??

Thanks Priceplus! I really appreciate that.

I also posted about this friend on a forum that I've been a member of for 4 years now and was amazed at the number of my friends from there that have contacted me wanting to help.

That got me to thinking though of how many of us are willing to help those that we know over the internet yet overlook the needs right on our doorstep. Maybe my post can be a catalyst for others to look for needs that are right under their noses and see what they can do to help.

                  Re: Willing to help??

I started saving my coins on Halloween and will continue through the first week of December...then I will give it to someone who needs it.

Actually, this year I got a good boost to the savings as I had a coin jar pretty full already and all of that money went into the pot.

I keep my jar by the front door and everyone who pops in or stops by is invited to donate.

Ive done this for years in addition to my Phyllis donation

You are right, we are not aware of the locals that need our help.

                      Re: Willing to help??

Well, I think it's easy to overlook them. They're people we see every day but their needs just don't "register" with us. We become numb to it I think, plus we're overfocused on ourselves and our problems. It's easy to be blinded to what's right in front of us.
