    6 worthless excuses:

    1. I don't make enough money.
    2. I'll get around to it later.
    3. I deserve a little luxury in my life.
    4. Someone else will take care of it.
    5. I'm saving through my 401(k).
    6. This item or service will pay for itself.

I like this article. Especially about saving becoming addictive. It's already beginning to be here.

I agree. This is definitely one of the better "list" articles.

I agree also, very good advice. I think I am proof that you do not have to make a lot of money. You just need to start with your first paycheck, and pay yourself first every week. Put that money aside and let it grow. When I got married (2nd time) dh was making $4 an hour and I was making $89 a week. We always saved 10% of it right off the top.

Sometimes my wife thinks I'm too addicted to it and I agree. I spend hours researching the best interest rates to put my savings into.

Pardon me while I go kick the trash can. Condescending articles like that make me so mad I can't see straight.

I wonder when the last time was that Tamara Holmes or Rob Bennett tried to survive and suport a family on $6/hr in a major metro area?

There are a lot worse things to be addicted to. My husband kids me about being cheap, but he is proud of the fact that we have plenty of money in the bank and that I don't waste his hard earned money.

Re: 6 (worthless) excuses for not saving money

I agree that people have built in excuses for not saving more money. I just think that too many people worry about what others will think if they live below their means. We drive cars that are way too expensive, wear clothes that cost too much, live in homes that are too big, have furniture that is too expensive because it has to match the house value, and spend too much on eating out versus making meals at home.

Saving is definitely addictive! I should seek help.

Tis true, people can always come up with a reason they can't save. When I asked a friend if she could save just $5 a week, she said, sure, but what good would that do?? That was 30 years ago, look how much money she would have now. Instead, she has practically none.
