    Re: A No-Warning/No-Spend challenge!

I am out but still in, does that make sense?? One stumble doesn't make me give up entirely.

I don't foresee spending much this weekend. No time. LOL. We have birthday parties galore and stuff, maybe gas but I allowed myself that. We'll see how it goes...

      Re: A No-Warning/No-Spend challenge!

Friday was another day without expenditure. I walked to the office. Spent the morning dividing my time between the books and the staff room. Fudge brownies, homemade no less, were the featured attraction. Ended up working over to cover for the manager. A coupe of extra hours to add to my Challenge results.

Spent the rest of the afternoon working on the closets. Taco salad for dinner. Frost in the forecast for tonight. The weekend should be quiet.

      That is all.

        Re: A No-Warning/No-Spend challenge!

I'll probably join in again on Monday. We are going to spend $20 at a farm today for some Fall fun. I LOVE this time of year, and I just can't say no to many of the festivities that happen this time of year. For many people, summer holds all the fun. For me, it's Fall! I love, love, love the weather! And the trees are beautiful, and the decorations are festive and nothing beats hot chocolate drunk outside in the cool, crisp Autumn air. I'm a sucker for all things Fall.

So part of my challenge will be to create my own fun for free, but not this weekend. My sweet brother wants us to join his family for this Fall event, and there's nothing I'd rather do. But next week maybe we can take a nature hike and bring our own hot chocolate in a thermos.

            Re: A No-Warning/No-Spend challenge!

I spent $1.75. Garage sales; we need two pieces of furniture (a low bench/coffee table/book shelf for the computer room, and a cabinet/bookcase for our stached gifts-houses build in 1887 seem to lack closets) so I was spotting. I got a rubbermaid pitcher for iced tea/chilled water, and a fifty cent Christmas gift, and a tortilla press. I feel okay about the purchases...none were desperately needed, but none were frivolous and the price was right.

So I suppose I'm out, but I am still (post vacation and buying gift binge) tightening and looking to avoid extravagant purchases, so I'm mentally kinda in.

K I spent....online and at three stores..but because of the challenge I resisted temptation to eat out....dunno if that counts, but it does help my wallet...and Ds will get a bday present, plus baloons (also two 'shoeboxes for kids' filled and a couple other christmas gifts checked off, all in budget)

I don't think I'd look good with hair that long.

Ah, what a beautiful, crisp Saturday. I so wanted to go out and ... um spend money on something. Well, Saturdays, I usually go to the sushi buffet. But not today of course. Nor could I go to the mall to "window shop". No, that would be too tempting.

Instead, I spent nearly 2 hours, strolling around the park. It was actually quite good for me to do that... with the cool air and warm sun. It was a beautiful day to be out. Can't say that I did much beyond that though. Just came home and cooked* some food.

                * "Cooked" as in microwaving a TV dinner and opening a can of carrots.

                  Re: A No-Warning/No-Spend challenge!

Saturday - Still nothing spent, but I wouldn't be shopping on a Saturday in any event.

Spent the morning at the office once again. And, as was the case on Friday, I elected to walk to work. The absence of staff room goodies significantly enhanced my productivity -- darn it.

Home in the afternoon and back to the closets. The project should wind up by the end of the weekend. Finally, I will have everything organized and labeled once again.

Roasted a chicken for dinner and baked a couple of potatoes. Tossed a salad with chilled microwaved vegetables. Since the oven was hot, I hauled out a recipe I'd been meaning to try, something involving chocolate fudge cake mix, cherry pie filling and almonds. Had a piece for dessert, still warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Not bad at all.

                    Sounds yummy

I didn't leave the house today, so no money spent. I really want to take the kids apple picking before it gets any colder, but it can wait a little longer. It's going to be cold tomorrow anyway.
Tomorrow we go bowling in our league, but I have already prepaid that. We may have to pay for a sitter if my SIL can't watch the kids, though.

                      Re: A No-Warning/No-Spend challenge!

I bent the rules... a lot... today.

So, it was another nice day, and naturally, I can't be cooped up indoors all day. However, I wanted to do something different from yesterday. So... I thought today would be a perfect day to finish up my Christmas shopping.

Now, I know that's technically spending, but I thought it'd be OK since it's not for me and I wanted to get it done before Halloween anyway.

And speaking of Halloween, I also bought some candy for Trick or Treaters. Yeah, I did mention that I bent the rules a lot today right? But again, I justified it in that it wasn't for me either, and since I was already out and about, I might as well get that done too.

Other than that, I came back home and "cooked" some more. Which while we're on that subject, I discovered something potentially marvelous today. I wanted some canned soup, but it was cold, and I was trying to figure out a lazy *cough* I mean efficient way of heating it up. Then, I thought to myself, "Hey, I wonder if I could put the can right on the (electric) stove and heat it up that way?" Ten minutes on the lowest setting worked! Not only that, but there's enough space on there to heat up to three cans at once! Color me amazed.

In a related note, I actually slipped in the shower today. I slipped when I was trying to reach down and adjust the drainus thingamabobus (yes, that's the technical term for it. ). Fortunately, I wasn't hurt thanks to my mountain cougar-like reflexes... what? Ok... mostly thanks to my hard head absorbing most of my impact. All-in-all, it still wasn't that bad though. I'd give myself a 9.2. Probably could've done better if I tucked my legs in during the first rotation or something....

i have hardwoods & long hair and while it is still a mess, a dust mop does the trick.

for those w/ carpet & hair: maybe try a homemade modified swiffer carpet flick? i'm envisioning a piece of cardboard w/ masking tape (sticky side out), somehow affixed to a broom or sponge mop... then again, maybe a egular dust mop would work on carpet?

                            Re: A No-Warning/No-Spend challenge!

Sunday -- Today I bought the morning newspaper - $2. This is a scheduled expenditure, and it should be the only money I spend during this Challenge. I'm prepared to embrace a temporary austerity; I am not willing to forgo the New York Times crossword puzzle.

Aside from stroll down the street for said paper, the day was quiet. Had a friend over for lunch. Pasta Alfredo (Jazzed the sauce up with slivered roast chicken and mushrooms), the last of the salad. Dessert was my chocolate cherry concoction, warmed in the microwave, topped with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with heated Hershey chocolate syrup, As impressive as it was deadly. The lady (an admitted chocoholic) was appropriately stunned.

Fact is, I'm making a determined effort to use some of the odd items that showed up in my last pantry inventory. The jar of Alfredo sauce was one, the chocolate syrup was another. Still trying to figure out why I have two jars of mango chutney. I don't think of myself as a mango chutney sort of person. Could I have had delusions of curry?.

Still haven't finished the closet project. Soon, soon.

BA, if we reread this post, we'll see that nearly everyone has something to confess In fact, I...um...spent today too. We did end up taking the kids apple picking because it turned out to be a relatively nice day, and we wanted to get the apples soon. We spent $5.75 for about 13 pounds of apples. DH came home and made us a nice apple pie, which I am eating now
We also had to spend $15 for the sitter tonight, but that's a regular expense.

I spent $3 on nachos and a soda on saturday - broke rules.

BEnt rules - did some christmas shopping I had planned. Well I won ebay auctions. I don't have to pay for them until tuesday. LOL. But I probably will pay now anyway. OR does the whole committing to purchase thing = spending? Hmmmm. Something to consider.

Bought groceries and gas which were in my rules.
