I am an attorney in California (criminal and juvenile), working on a novel and hoping to be able to write full-time from home one day. DH is a tattoo artist and picks up multiple side jobs.

In NYC he'll be able to take advantage of the subway and get to places on his own, which is very important to him for his sense of independence, and not feeling like a child having to ask me to drive him anywhere he needs to go.
What a brilliant plan. The city does desperately need quality teachers. Your hubby will do fine on the subway. I see vision-impaired people all the time trekking into the city and they all seem to be managing very well. Good luck!!!

Re: What do you do for a living (work, home business, other?)

I have been a sahm for the past 12 yrs. My kids are in 5th and 7th grade now, so I am looking to get back to full-time work. I work part-time for an income tax service during tax season, done so since 1997. In my previous life I was an internal auditor for an insurance company. I had no idea I would be sahm for this long, but our ds is autistic and it seemed like he always needed to go to doctor, therapy, etc. It was just easier not to have to hassle with job too. He is doing fine now, school is good for him.

My dh works for auto company as supervisor, but he hates it and is going to school to be a baker, he wants to have his own business. Plus, auto companies are really shaky right now, dh's plant has been on temp layoff for past month. Since this will be a big drop in income, I'm looking to get something full-time soon. But it has been tough, plus I'm kinda of nervous about interviewing since I've been out of full-time work for so long. (I know you didn't ask that, sorry for the soap opera!)

Helping people with their budgets has been a great job for me. I love the emails and hearing how people have turned their situations around. Each month I am in contact with people in over 40 different countries and the amazing thing is that the people in South Africa have the same money challenges as the people in New York or Australia.

Another good bit is the travel to seminars. I run up a lot of miles each year and get to meet great people and see interesting places.

And to think I spent so many years teaching... or well, good things happen to those that wait and train.

Used to work in the casino business but I am finding the spending power of my job is really slipping fast. As of next week my new title will be retired until I get too bored with it. I am sure when if I do happen to to reenter the working world I will be self employed.
