I think you're on the right track thinking of Christmas hiring. I'm sure there are pleny of retail establishment that would be able to sign you on for weekends only during the season.

Another idea might be to look for work as a caregiver for seniors. Several companies pay pretty good money for people to work as companions and to handle light housework, bill paying, and other tasks seniors may need help with.

I've also heard of people having pretty good luck doing product demos in stores. There's a website www.snagajob.com that lists lots of leads.

Yeah, temp options for now our great because my work schedule is so busy in the spring. Want my hubby to make a few bucks, but not burn any bridges by quitting come January. & then something more long-term come summer. So 2 different kinds of job options I guess. Just to clarify a bit.

I have a friend who has done a lot of sesonal/night/weekend jobs so I am picking her brain too.

My parents are notaries and make extra-income as real estate loan signing agents. Basically, they go to the borrowers' homes to get the borrowers' signatures on loan papers. (They do not sell, recommend, or comment on the loans. They just notarize the signatures.)

The business wasn't too expensive for them to get into and the necessary classes/testing (two one-day sessions) are offered quarterly by the local colleges. They put their availability into a national notary database and the lenders call them for jobs. The pay is $50 to $125 a job depending on where it is and whether they have to print the loan papers. They are averaging about 3-4 signings a week. Most jobs are at night or on weekends.

They are retired and they like having the extra income without committing themselves to a regular job. (They like to travel.) A lot of the jobs come up at the last minute, so it might not work for you unless you have child care at the ready.

I would be happy to pay some one to give me lessons on a computer and so would most people that did not grow up with computers.

You might want to try something like LiveOps or West. They are virtual call centers so you take the calls in your own home. You only have to take a few calls every 60 days to stay active but you can pick up as many hours as they have available.

I am waiting to start. I also work full time and need to schedule extra work around my twins schedules (if you can call them that). There is alot of good information about work at home (legitimate) opportunities at www.wahm.com (work at home moms). People are very honest about their experiences with companies on the message boards.

Clark Howard talked about a legit work at home business, but I forget the name. He does have it on his site and in 2 years has never had a complaint yet about them. It did have to do with receiving customer service calls at home for various companies.

Deliver pizzas...very flexible hours and decent pay, plus all the mistakes you can eat!

UPS...I did that for 2 months one year in Chicago during the xmas rush. You freeze your butt off while sweating trying to keep up with the package flow. Imagine unloading a 28 foot trailer full of packages for $25 (takes 3 hrs according to their guidelines). If that seems like easy money then go for it.

Holiday mail order catalog companies hire a ton of people for the xmas rush...all 3 shifts available.

I do product demos & love it I can take as many or as few jobs as I want to the pay is pretty good for my area I am making about $14 sometimes $16 an hour. I can work 1-5 days a week or 1 day a month if thats all I want its a ok job it fits so good in my busy life though with my kids & I cant send my 2yr old to daycare so I do these only if my husband or oldest daughter can babysit & sometimes my mom watches them only if my oldest is gone & dh is working these are mainly 5-6 hours on sat & sundays. I couldnt find another job that was so flexiable just something to keep in mind & they always need demo people oh ya thier is merchandising too but thats done more in the week in the day & alot more physical & it may only be 1hr per store so $8 a store not worth it IMO

Starbucks, Barnes and Noble have decent starting wages for Part time Jobs, and have benefits. Both have plenty of evening and weekend shifts open as well as they are both open late, and get a lot of business on the weekends.

Any clothing store at the mall would probably be looking for seasonal help.

You could do something like Princess House, Pampered Chef or Mary Kay or something along those lines, where you do parties/home consultations and can set your own schedule.

Thanks! I have considered doing notary in the past - just did not know how to get jobs. I Will look into that!!

You know IMA my husband has looked into this in the past. He is more into setting up computers and getting people started, and keeping htem up for people whod on't know anything about them. But we live in such a techie area it is pretty hard to find people who don't know anything about computers. Seriously...

WE do a lot of he self-employed route already, and honestly it takes so much time & investment. Looking for something easier. My husband does video work and I Sell cookie Lee.

BUT I did talk to my friend and I had forgotten her husband was working for a local grocer. She said pay was great, only weekend shifts if he wanted, and discount on groceries too boot! We're keeping it in mind.

I think product demo looks like the best bet for now - we'll look into it. & being a notary is something I Can work on. THanks!
