Oh well, WFYB (Whatever Floats Your Boat).
That is surprising to me; I see them on every message board I frequent and have for at least 7 years now.

I suppose it's possible, since most of the boards I've frequented in the past deals more with "toys" than family members.

Ahh...and I hang out on parenting/pregnancy boards, boards for women in business, ballet, etc.

I think women are more prevelant on this board than men which is why we see "DH" so often. "DW" is a universally accepted acronym for "Dear Wife", we just don't see it as often with fewer men typing. I don't feel like it is a way to "attach" husbands to these acronyms. I also think that in the context of the message it is GENERALLY easy to tell if it means "Dear Husband" or "Dumb Husband" etc.

Finally, I don't think it is a form of laziness, but instead of form of communication style. And folks, it is to get worse, not better. Just wait until today's high school students become active on this and other boards. Ask the ones we already have! Their instant messages with each other are loaded with commonly accepted acronyms I couldn't begin to list (or understand for that matter). Written communication is changing.

I think this is an argument between the generations.

Yes, I've seen a few forums dominated by teens (and I'm tempted to say that they are the dominant age group on the internet right now). It's a very interesting subculture. Leetspeak abounds, as well as their own form of "internet humor".

Stands for dear husband. DD=dear daughter DS=dear son DW=dear wife, etc. I have no idea how this got started.

It's annoying. Why not say Son, or Husband, or Wife, etc.?

Because people use shorthand on message boards. It's extremely common, and so it becomes habit.

well When I started gettn' into message forums I was a step-mom (Newbie)
The short hand helps me personally understand what the other person was chatting about
                  Step-Son SS
                  Step-Daughter SD
                  Biological Mom BM

See, I am a BM and a SM to one BS and One SS
It also protects the name of the individual....but giving enough information for one to understand (Like me with two boys same age) which one I am chatting about

I always thought it was Yes Dear uttered with a snarling tone which really translates to Yes Da**it!

                      Is that right?

Re: What does DH stand for?

I see it written as a person in the following type context:
"I had to take YD to practice last night."

I've wondered if it was "young daughter"?

On Second Wives club forums I have seen YD as Basically
"the Young Daughter" When a lady had to biological daughters and a step-daughter and was trying to tell us about the Youngest daughter......
                                YD = Young Daughter
