I once won a sweepstakes at a student organization in school. It was a beauty kit worth $150. I kept waiting for them to deliver to my dorm room when they sent me messages via the phone that I should pick it up at the student center. I thought if I didn't pick it up they would deliver the kit somewhere else, but they ended up giving the kit away to another person.

I was so broke back then, if I only had accepted the gift I would feel a lot better about my appearance.

There are many, many other things. Almost everything I used to do in college was a mistake.

I would have not given my daughter so much money for so long!

Everyday I wake up with a new realization of something I have wasted money on or an opportunity that has been missed....Everyday I wake up with regrets.

I wish I haven't made so much mistakes at the tender age of 22.

I am sure you would both be better candidates! I would have not watched home shopping and qVC so much!

I would have insisted that we save 10% at the very least all along throughout our marriage. When I look back at our old checking statements I'm aghast at what we fluffed our money off on!!

I wish I would of saved money sooner than I did
-Wish I never lived with the kids dad. Should of left alot sooner!
-Wish I would of started my 401 (b) sooner
-Wished I wouldn't of partied so much with people who had no goals in life
-Wished I would of finished college
-Wished I wouldn't of had to work full-time, had no choice bread single parent, than I could of been with my girls more.

What I meant to say since I was a single parent I had to work to support my girls.

Ima - That could be an interesting thread. Was the adoption costly as many are nowadays?
Anyway, I wouldn't have bought so much "junk". I wouldn't spend so much on "things that I will keep forever". I have discovered that there really aren't that many things (from furniture to draperies to cars) that I want to keep a long time. I think most of us get bored with things and like to change things around. I would have chosen to spend less money on alot of "stuff".
In retrospect, I probably would not have purchased the house we live in. Though, my DH really likes it and it is quite comfortable. But, I think it is too big and would like to downsize at some point. We also bought 2 new cars last year. Paid cash for 1. But, I wonder if we spent too much and if we will really still have these cars in 5 years.

I would never have invested in rental properties nine years ago. The past three years have been a pain with many problems, and I keep losing money. I am having a heck of a time trying to sell them.

Oh yes, that is another big regret. I bought 3 rentals too and lost money when I finally sold them. It took forever to sell them and because I moved to another state, people broke into the house and lived there!

I'm only 23, so my list is shorter, and somewhat more stupid than some of the others:

I never would have lived with a friend I met in college. She turned out to be a man hungry, loose, pothead.

I never would have stuck with my loser, going nowhere, boyfriend who I supported on my meager waitress tips for 2 years while he laid on the couch in his undies. If I had saved that money, I wouldn't have had to take out a loan for the last year of college.

I would have listened to my intuition and realized that one of my boyfriends was, in fact, gay.

I should have never attempted to sell Mary Kay. I lost 2300 bucks just to realize that I hate selling Mary Kay.

                                Good thread.

I would have taken more risks the year I left school--I had a couple of options, one of which involved a 3-year job in Europe I turned down, another of which was a good but not definite chance on a job with a person I would have loved to work with, and the third of which would have involved taking a government sector job rather than an academic one. Instead I took the safest job option and ended up spending more money than I made that year. It seems to me that any of the other options might have led to more career success than I've managed, but that's really speculative, and I try just to learn from experience and not get bogged down in regret.
