A lot of the bigger cell phone providers are pretty expensive. Companies like T-Mobile and AT&T can charge high fees. In contrast low cost providers like US Mobile, Mint and Visible by Verizon charge significantly less on a monthly basis. So, consider changing plans.

Why and how can they charge less fees? My plan is soo old it's hard to beat. Even friends on google fi, mint have trouble matching the plan

We have Consumer Cellular. We live in the middle of nowhere and the coverage is still good and the data plan is great as well. Far better than some of the big companies and their big prices.

Spoiler alert...all of those companies listed are basically resellers that buy time/capacity on the big networks (ATT, TMobile, Verizon). You're still using the big networks, but with fewer features, or deprioritized signal or data. And that may be OK for your needs. Just because it's cheaper doesn't mean it's the same.

We stick with the major players who own the networks and then shop for discounts. For example I get 20% off through my employer. It's worth asking what discounts the networks may offer directly to certain affinity or professional organizations as well.
