  • Do You Use Your Public Library?

How many of you actually use the public library? This forum made me realize I spend a fortune buying books and I have no place for them at home. So today I went and got a library card. I didn't realize there is a public library two blocks from my job.

It felt good to walk out of there with some new reading and I didn't pay a dime for it.

I used to use the library a lot, but with digital media, not so much any more. We have a kindle, and it is far easier for me to either check out library books on it, or simply buy books off Amazon.

I do, however, go to the library when they have used book sales. This allows me to grab a bunch of paperbacks for a couple dollars, and not have to worry about their value, or returning them, or losing them. Then I'll donate them back when I'm done.

We check out books from our library. We also get TV shows and movies from them. That library also has video games and CDs you can rent. Another local library charges $1 for movies, and we've yet to use them, however it's still less than redbox let alone going to the movies!

We use the library all the time. I rarely set foot in the library these days since I mostly just check out ebooks from the library, online.

I think I'd die without the public library! Its where I get books, movies (especially foreign and independent ones), magazines, newspapers, and research journals. I've used their job club services, exercise classes, free internet, and enjoyed their free ac when I couldn't afford to run mine. In fact I just went to the library yesterday and checked out a handful of books on finances. In many cities library systems are linked with those through the state so if your local library doesn't have a particular book you can request it from a library in another city..... for free! If you have kids they have quite a bit of afterschool/summer programming and tutoring services too.

Ok I'm done with my infomercial now lmao!

It's been on my "todo" list for quite a while. I've never even set foot in it. Public libraries are one of the few public institutions I love.

Yes, we love our library! I wish we used it more when the girls were younger, but they also use it plenty now. I like that I can checkout whatever I want, pay nothing, and don't HAVE to read it if I don't end up liking it.

Yes, we have a great public library. Lately we have mainly been checking out movies, but we also use it for books (ebooks and paper) and activities (classes, movies, concerts, etc.). It is a great way to save money, broaden your horizons, and not accumulate stuff you have nowhere to store (dusty books on the shelf, I'm looking at you).

Almost never but I'm not much of a reader. I couldn't tell you the last time I read a book. When I was at my old job (which I left 14 years ago), I used to go to the library and borrow books on tape that I would listen to in the car. Now I have a much shorter commute - and podcasts on my phone.

My wife uses the library to "borrow" ebooks using the Kindle app on her phone/iPad but she doesn't have to physically go to the library for that. It's all done online.

I use a Kindle and I prefer ebooks over paper. I know you can check out ebooks from the library, but only for a few weeks. It takes me months to read through a whole book many times because I don't read quickly or one at a time, and I like to be able to re-read or reference them later, so I just buy them.

With the addition of ebooks i use our library more now than i used to. It is so convenient to browse for titles and download it to my tablet.

I love using my Kindle so I should really figure out how to borrow library books for it.
