Well, remember that cord of wood yesterday? DH took it to the guy and the guy measured the cord...it was more than a cord afterall, so the guy paid an extra $30...

My DH works very hard, supported my decision to say home and help care for my parents, he is running this wood business to make ends meet, he always 'loves' my homecooking...even when I err with it... he is truly my hero.

So - I very unfrugally told him to just keep the extra $30 and do something fun for himself!!

Today? I got some excellent deals on gifts and bought a few things for msyelf at the same time.

Yesterday? Bought a cinnamon twist at Sbux because I left home without eating breakfast.

Thank you- I am sooooo grateful to him for giving this new lifestyle a chance. Ive been home for 1 year (as of last week) and in all honesty, our marriage is stronger than it's EVER been (16 years). (He tried to give me $20 of the $30 to go towards our next wood purchase...but in the end, I convinced him to just have some fun with it.)

Tonight we went out to see my cousin play guitar at a coffee house - he came in from out of town with his girlfriend, who sings, to put on the show. DH and I went out to dinner first with my brothers, SIL, and future SIL ($25) - then $6 cover charge, and another $4 at the coffee shop. Plus $20 for babysitter. Not a frugal night at all, but a nice one.

I skipped the line drying, had a lousy dinner, used disposable diapers, and was online for hours! not a good day at all!

today I am getting off the computer, but stil using all the other conveniences.

We went out to eat using a restaurant.com certificate. We've eaten there before and had trouble using the full certificate, so we ordered without paying attention to prices. I guess they had a price uptick because when the bill came back, we owed $7. Now that isn't much, but I could have done without the queso (which was cold and powdery - not up to their standards at all).

Then, I made dh give the boys dollars to take to the guitar player who had been serenading us. And I tipped 20% of the total including taxes. So, $15 for a dinner out. It was worth it, but so not frugal.

Cercis, I give you props for tipping well. In my book, if a frugal person goes out to dinner, beverages and appetizers may be gone, but not a good tip. It's good karma, and it will come back to you.

I found out 2 birthdays are coming soon, so I can't plan to be super frugal; My guy and I bought one a book-$14.20, $7.10 for my share. Not a bad price, and he's a very good friend, but if I had planned better I might have been able to find this same book (that he really wants) for less, and also perhaps have gathered other stocking stuffer type add ons. This lesson reminded me to always be on the lookout for thrifty gifts for friends, and not get caught again.

I always tip well, as I did last night. I left a $6 tip for a $16 dinner. The girls take special care of us and always fight over who gets us. That feels good.

My friend Jane and I are going to a very fancy restaraunt on the river for dinner....She has a $50 gift certificate....and I will pay any overage balance/tip. Unfrugal? Yes, but I love Jane dearly and enjoy spending time with her....we only go out once every 2-3 months..and usually it is for bogo free lunch somewhere. This is such a splurge for us...ive been 'cited all darn day!!!

***update...dinner was only $46 so I left an additional $10 for the tip....quite a reasonable extravagance! (a yummy one too!)
