Any DIYers here?

What books/magazines do you read? I used to subscribe to the Family Handyman and am thinking about starting it up again. What do you guys read/subscribe to? Any good books out there? I'm not looking for anything in particular, I just like DIY stuff.

I'm already a big car and computer nut, the latter is my profession as well. I usually end up saving a lot of money doing my own maintenance and repairs...actually I spend a lot on my cars and then I try to even it out with DIY maintenance and repairs which then allow me to feed my other addiction of tools and garage stuff but then it's all justified...anyway I digress

I use to subscribe to popular mechanics and tried to duplicate some of the things in there. Sometimes it worked and other times it failed miserably. I'm a perfect example of how curiosity killed the cat but I'm still around somehow I used to get FH but let it go.

I have no talents ( except for managing money) but my husband does almost everything himself. He can do electrical, plumbing, build furniture, build cabinets, do tile work, hardwood floors, paint; anything to do with building. That is his living. He loves cars too. He took apart my 78 vette and completely repainted it and replaced all the stuff in the engine that needed replacing.

Problem with magazines was that some were of interest, many were not. Often time constrictions meant DH didn't take it out of it's plastic wrap until holiday/vacation. We wanted family time - he wanted to bury himself in interesting articles/plans.

If there is a project he's interested in, he goes to the library and looks for articles in his fav. magazines. It's quiet, no one bothers him wanting attention. They have many copies of all the popular magazines. He can Xerox anything he feels worth the effort and we have a system to keep them in a binder. The best thing is he can find the item he wants, when he wants it!

When I run up against some repair I have never done, I google. I have a generic washer (Roper) so I used "diy repairs - washing machine repair roper" as the search criteria. I was able to diagnose the problem, disassemble the machine, order the correct part and reassemble it -- and it still works 2 years later.

I am not particularly 'handy' but I am not fearful (much).
