IF I recall from other posts you tend to go to the same local diner? a bit more for the company than the cooking?

You might try inviting people over, odd as it may seem you could create something to do. Course it requires company. If you can't find friends (most people today are rather over booked) try offering a helping hand, dredge up someone who needs the food. or see if there is a local class you would like tyo take or teach, eat quick(at home) then go.

Thanks princess. We don't have people over very often because my husband tends to make a really big production when we invite guests. We have to have fancy appetizers, desserts, etc. We just about quite having parties because he insists on some much food. We do tend to go to the same place every night. we know the owners and like all the waitresses.
You are right, we need to find something else to do early in the evening. We don't like to eat until after 8, so we can have cocktails with dinner.

How about a comprimise? a little less food, but still the company, and I wouldn't give up eating entirely, less you have to.

how about a couple or two, wine and cheese. simple, elegant, fun and not to expensive. you could decide which wines you all would like to try. or maybe even coffees instead of wine, or teas. do some history on them and what kind you would or always have wanted to try next.

I don't have alot to do here either. We do have things to do but most require $$$ & I don't have it & it's not always KID friendly. Can you believe there's no McD's w/ a play area within 10 miles of here?!?! We love going to the local zoo's in summer but the free one is nearly an hour away the one closer costs a mint. It would run a family of 4 atleast $50 to go. So we got to the Free one & make pit stops along the way like to the Jelly Belly Factory Outlet.

I can't wait for spring to get here. Til then we bought a $40 pool table from Wally world so when the kids are asleep (if they ever get to sleep before us) we go in the basment & play pool, ping pong, or darts. Or even just sit in bed watching tv & play a few hands of cards.

have you checked that zoo out online. i know at st louis its free to get in, but you can buy a family membership for only 60 a year, and use that for the exibits that cost money and get a 10% discount on the food and gift shops. they also send bday cards to your kids and a calander for the year you sign up for as well.

                          1. Homeowner's Association - $180 quarterly. We have access to the pool and a nice lake. The lake is on the other side of the subdivision so my husband and I only see it a few times a year, and the pool is always crowded with kids. We have a gated community, so I guess we're paying for peace of mind also. We don't have much of a choice if we want to live here without a lien against our home.

                          2. Electricity - Since we spend most of our waking hours under the environment created by our employers (cold, hot), we want to be comfortable in our own home.

                          3. Lasik - I had it in January. Not very frugal, but I cannot explain what a difference it has made in my life. My husband no longer calls me "squints."

                          4. Our wedding - the best day of our lives, April 8th 2006. Everyone had a GREAT time, and we spent less than half of what the average wedding costs. The entertainment was worth every dime. We paid it off in June.

                          5. Our home - We probably don't need 1900 sq ft for two people, but we are homebodies. Other than visiting with family or going to the beach 5 mins away, we don't stray far from home.

Least frugal thing for me is Autocrossing.

Entry fees for 20-30 events eacy year = $1000
Tires and brake pads for the year = $1000
Gas to get to and from the events = $1000
Parts to make the car competitive = $3000
Car payments and insurance for 'the race car' = $7000
                              Yearly cost: $13000

If only auto racing wasn't so much fun.

Definitely my cable internet. But worth it to me because it keeps from other spendthrift habits.
