  • Budget swap for a justified splurge

Do you have an area where you "cut" the budget (or as I call it - "swap") so that you can justify a splurge?

If I clean and iron 3 shirts I can justify a Starbucks.

    How about you?

If I go longer between washing my clothes by wearing more of the clothes I have, I can justify buying a new top or skirt or something else at a thrift store. I realize that it's kind of round-about, I have enough clothes to go almost 3 weeks before I run out of clothes and yet I use that as an excuse to buy more.

If I want to buy something that's more expensive I try to go at least 2-4 weeks without buying anything or I'll put more into savings.

I generally do this in reverse - if I'll do w/o going somewhere I can then SAVE my gas money or not buying clothes and then move it into online savings account.

I make or buy low cost cleaning products, so I can buy more expensive hair care products...

          LuxLiving,

I would guess that most of us regularly do this in reverse. I am always looking to cut expenses and "save." However, I am interested in those who have their little areas where they cut when they want to splurge!

Well, for me groceries and eating out are flexible between one another. If we eat out more, we eat in less, um, glamorously

I have a planned "splurge" account. I save a decent amount of money a month ($150). If I splurge, I use that account and theres plenty of money to pull from.

I find that if I justify splurges any other way I lose track and overspend.
