San Francisco is about 2 hrs from us. It's known as a vile area, unfortunately, so these S.F. protests will be discounted by most people anyhow.

Yes. Philadelphia has had large protests the past 3 nights.

The security and safety of our democracy right now hinges on what Trump's next tweet is going to be. Will he lash out at the protesters again or will he be presidential and denounce the hate groups who are cheering him on so much? Will he submit a plan on how to heal the country or just say "we must be united"?

I honestly don't know. I was off work for Veteran's Day and didn't spend any time on the Internet. I didn't encounter any protests while I was out during the day. I am not on Twitter so unless I read about it on the Internet, I have no idea what the President Elect tweets. Or if our current President or if Hillary Clinton tweeted anything to try to calm her supporters.

Multiple, small events. I've only seen one in the news, and it was calm. It was more a meeting; they didn't march.

First tweet from Trump as the president elect

"Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair"

                  He then hours later tweeted
"Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. We will all come together and be proud!"

So we don't know which Trump we are going to get today or tomorrow.
That sets the tone for his temperament. Accusing 10s of thousands of people being professional fake protestors.

Also there's nothing Clinton can do to calm the protestors if people are protesting Trump's character (racist/sexist). Clinton can jump in and say something after Trump ease the people first by acknowledging their concerns.

Otown is having a veteran parade and then a gay pride parade later this afternoon. Hopefully it'll be peaceful.

Yeah, you posted his tweet the other day.

The posts on this forum and the comments on the ABC panel on election night were about how it was important for Trump to set the proper tone with his acceptance speech. The consensus was that he did a great job with that speech. But despite Clinton telling her supporters to accept the results, ORGANIZED protests across the United States occurred.

You can make statements that things will change if he denounces racism in a tweet, but that won't be enough for the majority of protestors.

Protestors are objecting to other things than just racism. I reviewed still photos from Portland. The sentiments and ideas expressed were diverse. Not everyone was focused on the same issues. Many different groups were gathered. "Anarchists", for example, find motivation to be present for many sorts of public gatherings, but few in the Portland crowds are anarchists.

I do think the tenor of first the candidate, now the president elect, in January the president is important. I think his words have legitimized and unleashed some awful ideas. I fear those ideas materializing as actions more than they already have.

I agree. He can't fix a long history of negative behavior with 140 characters. He needs to do it with sincere apologies and clear actions. He needs to stop just saying that he wants to unite America and start doing things to actually accomplish that. Of course, his options are somewhat limited until he is actually in office which isn't for another 2+ months. In the meantime, he needs to appoint people to his cabinet who represent diverse viewpoints, not just folks who agree with him.

In part people are protesting Trump's character, the other part is protesting our democracy. Having Clinton winning the popular vote by almost half a million more doesn't really help this situation.

Did you capitalized organized suggesting this was planned all along? Are you saying the DNC was planning on a Hillary loss and really paid organizers to start protesting the minute the election went to Donald Trump?

You know it doesn't take much for people on an emotional night of the election who already have signs in their hand watching the election just start organizing under a common message(can't get anymore common than "he's not my president".
