a kegerator...money and environment saver...

My DH built an office shed. By himself. He did a great job...mad props. He poured the piers, did the foundation, structure everything. Anyway I got him a kegerator for his birthday last month. And a beverage fridge for Christmas. Anyway it took him a month to set it up (end of January) we were busy traveling. He sets it up and tells me I'm saving money and the environment. Saving 1/6 keg = $155 cheaper than drinking 3 cans of beer a night....okay maybe. But also saving by only pouring what he wants to drink...(again maybe more because he has no idea). Environmentally friendly by using a mug we wash instead of a can or bottle.

I sigh and say good thing you are pretty...

that’s a win.

And I would agree on the keg things too.

Buying in bulk.
pour what you need so should be no waste.
no cans or bottles to discard.
save gas having to not run out to buy more supplies.

Biggest problem with a kegerator is, when friends find out you have one you will be giving away more than you drink yourself, so your overall beer expense goes up.
But good attempt at trying to rationalize this purchase anyway.

Especially in a home-use setting, he probably only needs a pony keg. My squadrons over the years have often had kegerators, and when you're serving a couple dozen people at once, you'll replace a keg after 2-3 events. But at home, a full keg is probably too much -- if it sits tapped for too long, I understand that the taste & "texture" (carbonation, body, etc) will be off. I don't drink myself at all, but as I said, I've been around these things for a long time. Plus, with a pony, he can cycle through different kinds more regularly.

Ha-ha, that would be the biggest money saver, wouldn't it?

I'm proud of my son who built his own kegerator, which he probably did for the money savings. He brews his own beers, too, but I have no idea if it is money saving.

Not so much for the liver

And don't let his friends know
You will never get rid of them lol
