We've actually had a number of alcohol-related social events during the quarantine. Our bourbon group has done a couple of Zoom meet ups and tastings and we've participated in two Zoom events run by distilleries, one in Colorado and one in Maryland. Our daughter has done two online video cocktail parties with friends of hers.

Just as when we aren't quarantined, alcohol is commonly involved in social events.
    True. I enjoy a drink.

I was talking about having one after another to the point where you don't accomplish anything else.
10 beers have a way of demotivating you into having an 11th instead of doing (fill in the blank)

I've been doing yard work and projects around the house.
Far more positive than sitting around drinking beer.
Further to what DS said, I highly resent the idea that as a society we need to be at max productivity all the time. To me, yard work and projects are a separate part of time management than relaxing and socializing which is where drinking fits in. Whether you choose to spend your down time watching TV, reading a book, sipping cocktails, meditating, it's important to acknowledge we need periods of rest and for most people taking on projects isn't restful.

I need mental sanity of talking to people holding a drink and sitting there doing nothing Some of it stems from being exhausted.

Hi. Thank God, I didn't have that problem. I don't spend a lot of money on alcohol, and it lasts me a long time. Unlike my friend of course! He spent a huge amount of money on alcohol! His wife was very worried, and soon realized that he had become an addict. It probably wouldn't have bothered her if they didn't have more than 5 debts, lol! She went all over the internet looking for help because even he wouldn't listen to me. I didn't want to scold him because I knew it wouldn't help, it would only ruin our friendship. Our home rehab on the advice of the site helps, we try every day, and now half a year a friend has not taken a drop of alcohol in his mouth! And finally their budget is not spent, but only replenished.

When my DH quit his job and I had to look at all my spending, I saw I was spending $275/month for wine. I was drinking the stress off since the start of the pandemic, mindless drinking too much of the time, that kinda slow, useless 1 glass of wine every hour and a half, just adding calories. I Wwas also buying bottles at ~12 each. I switched to more reasonable priced stuff and cut down on consumption and got spending to $80/month in June.

Now Delta is raging, I'm worried about every senior who didn't sneak in a booster, and so I'm drinking the more expensive stuff at higher quantities once again.

Oh it's easy to drink a glass an hour and 1 bottle a day later....when you have glass at 5 pm and then try splitting it? I saw our overall alcohol spending when covid hit from staying at home just more.
