I figured it was this as I used to find coins about every other time I went to the grocery store. Now - nada. Of course, the last thing I should be doing is trying to scrounge a penny or even a quarter off the ground while balancing on a cane!

We have a piggy bank on the counter and my other half keeps all of his change from lunch, etc. in a box in his toolbox. We recently went to Coinstar it to put in the bank... It was nearly $200!!! This stuff can really add up if you don't touch it for a while. We were so used to scraping change together to put food on the table... but having the ability to let it stack up was AWESOME.

I agree - this can be a great way to get people to start saving... but it definitely shouldn't be the only thing anyone is doing.

I never understood the whole process of using Coinstar
They charge a fee usually a percentage to count it up for you.
While I know many banks are different the two I have accounts with one will seal a big bag (with change and a deposit slip) and send to their coin counter then make the deposit the other has a thing like coinstar but free and then just deposits the total in your account. I think for some one who simply does not think they can save up the coin jar is a good start.

I guess it depends on where you are I am finding more change then I use to lately.

There is no fee if you redeem for a gift card instead of cash. I always take it as an Amazon credit since we shop on Amazon all the time.

That makes sense they probably get a cut from amazon .
I can never think of Coinstar without thinking of my own experience working in a store where we cashed the printout. I saw how much they were paying for this.

Some people IMO looked as if they needed every dime and so if they were buying things I would suggest self checkout as they could just pay with coins easier through that.
Another lady was "teaching" her kids to save by spending almost 9% to have a machine count it?
