I am flying in a couple weeks and will be using a backpack as my carry on. Is it ok for me to put my iPad and DSLR camera in there along with my wallet and belt so I don't have to take off when going through security?

Sure. I don't remember if they make you remove tablets (you're required to remove laptops from bags at checkpoints). But really, you can put anything you like in your bag, as long as it's allowable. All of those things are, so TSA won't blink twice.
