Well, it turns out that Pope Francis studied in Freiburg Germany at the university there in, apparently, the late 19980's, getting his theology doctorate. Turns out I was there as well, in 1987, for a semester, studying history. Wonder if we were ever eating lunch in the cafeteria at the same time.

Darn it, looks like reports of Pope Francis studying in Freiburg are false, as the Spiegel german newsmagazine has issued a retraction. Apparently he only studied in St Georgen, near Frankfurt in the mid 80's.
