  • 90 Day cholesterol (and insurance) challenge!

We want to shop around for better life insurance rates for DH and to get the best rates he needs to have lowest possible bad cholesterol (he has issues with it).

From what I understand, it takes 3 months of great behaviour to produce best possible numbers.

We know the drill -- good cardio at least 3 times a week, no saturated fats and increase consumption of good fats.
So we are going to make an effort for the next 90 days -- over 30 year term a lower rate can save a tonn of money (not to mention lesser medical expenses in the future!).

Cholesterol is a weird thing though -- DH is very skinny, eats rather healthy (he will have to be perfect now) yet his numbers are high.
I am keeping baby weight, eat unhealthy (by unhealthy I mean lots of dairy and animal fats, but I generally don't eat processed foods), don't exercise, but my cholesterol numbers and all other stats are stellar no matter what I do, even during my pregnancy, and I have the best possible life insurance rate. Go figure.
After our annual checkups (we have the same Dr). DH gets a long sit-down to discuss his routine and diet gravely, and I have never even been told to loose weight.

I will get on board with DH though -- I could benefit by loosing weight we'll and have entire household eating very healthy (except my 20 month old who should have full fat milk, yogurts, cheese and eggs and does not need low fat anything yet).

I will make a 90 day color-coded calendar with check mark for each meal that is healthy and workout days.
I am curious to see how much behavior alone can lower his cholesterol.
