Obama’s Support Among Young People Slips - Bloomberg

This could be bad news for the sitting President, but the elections are an eternity away on the timeline of politics.

It will be an interesting election year.

If I'm not mistaken, he has one of the highest disapproval ratings (from the general population, no particular age group) for any US president.

It depends how you look at the polls. One thing that I learned in Statistics is that you can make numbers look however you want to.

Very true; and in fact, there's a chance the numbers are even lower. What may be different for Obama, though, is that a lot of people who voted for him are highly disillusioned. Here is a great example for how a lot of people feel:

Obama Supporter To Obama: "I'm Exhausted Of Defending You" - YouTube (the clip is only 1:21 long)

The woman is quite articulate, intelligent, and respectful.

I had the privilege of attending the President's address this afternoon at a convention I'm attending. I can tell you that the youth in the room (who are not yet voting age, including my 16-year-old daughter who is also in attendance) were quite fired up by his talk. Some of these teens will be able to vote in 2012 (though my kid won't) and I'm sure seeing him in person today and having him address them specifically in his talk will most certainly influence their votes.

            * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
            * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
            * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Steve, did he offer a different kind of hope and change from what he promised on the last campaign trail?

Thats great news! I am not happy with who the front runners are in the Republican side, but I would never vote for Obama.

I think social media will put him ahead once again, in an even bigger way this election. Just think how much social media has evolved in the past 4 years. I mean Obama just registered for an instragram account. He knows what's up and it will resonate with the youth!

The rest of the world is counting on Americans to vote using their brains rather than emotions. Everytime a politician says he's going to 'fix' problem A, B, C etc. ask him how! Can you see the mess the politicians are creating in Greece, Hungary...soon Spain, Portugal et al?

Pres. Obama was very inexperienced and people voted with their hopes. The Bush admin and Bankers really did a dirty on the American public and in fact the world. What is needed is people like Richard Cordray [however he was appointed] to be allowed to clean up the mess, charge the greed bankers/wall street perpetrators of fraud, protect consumers and hold financial institutions to the law. Those were your tax dollars they pocketed as bonus for ripping you off!

I read that Karl Rove will soon be manipulating the Senate...Be careful what you wish for...you might get it!

With how corrupt our Congress is there is nothing a president can accomplish.
Most congressmen and women are swayed by lobbyist.
Our government no longer functions for the people.
Don't vote, don't bother voting, that's the strongest message we could send.

Did you see the results of the Iowa Republican causes? The results were extremely close.

Individually, our votes don't make a difference, but collectively, we have a huge voice. How do you think Obama got elected? Many of those voters would never have voted otherwise if they weren't prodded out of their ennui.

Regardless of who you support, do vote.

                            +1

Obama may not be the most experienced president, but how experienced would you have to be to clean up the Bush mess? I would venture to bet that most of the choices we had to elect for president during the last election would be struggling as well.
