    i need a frugal crafty idea.....

    I am trying to make a checker table for $0.

    Husband had 2 old tables from an auction years ago that he was going to through out--they are wooden tables, probably 100 or more years old that have been in the garage with junk on them. I rescued them.

    So, table #1 I sanded and stained. On the top, using left over paint I made a checker board. Each square is 2 inches by 2 inches. I am trying to use or reuse paint/items from around the house/farm. Any ideas what I can use to make the actual checker peices with??Milk and pop lids are too small (we don't drink much pop anyway), yogurt lids are too big and too light weight-the wind picks them up.

    After it is all painted, I plan to seal them from the weather.

    My plan is to use the on one of the decks or porch. Our home has a wide porch on 2 1/2 sides and decks on 3 others. We use them all alot, and I thought since we play checkers inside all the time, we could play them outside as well.

    If I get enough umption in my gumption, I have more wood and left over indoor outdoor carpet I might make a carpet ball table with.

    Juice lids?

    jar lids? from something you eat a lot of, like peanut butter? Or jelly.

      2 x 2 inches isn't all that big. Are you sure the caps from 1-gallon milk containers wouldn't work? PB or jelly jars would be too large.

      You could make your own. Cut them out of scrap wood or plastic of some sort.

        For a similar purpose, I'm saving lids from a "food supplement" I take. They have smooth yellow plastic lids 1 9/16 inches in diameter. It will take me months to save enough. If you find something to use except that they are too light-weight, maybe you could glue washers or pennies onto them.

          pennies for one side and nickels for the other?

          cut some deer antlers into small disks and paint one set?

              Of course one problem is that you need to be able to stack the objects to "king" them unless you make some other way to signify that they've been "kinged." Using small magnets as weights might also enable you to stably stack them.

                  We always flipped for kings.

                  And a small branch could be cut to circles too.

                    If you flip, you could paint a crown on one side of the rock.
