  • Nutrisystem: is it any good???

Seems like every time I turn on the TV I see Marie Osmond, and she looks great but is she really eating this stuff and losing all that weight and not cheating with a personal chef or something???

I hate to be cynical, but I went on their website and it’s all this food they send to you and it isn’t at all cheap and really, I never had a low-cal packaged dinner that tasted decent, usually it’s pretty bland, and this stuff can’t be good, it’s not even frozen so why doesn’t it spoil??

Anyone have a good story about Nutrisystem???

    Feedback would be great, thanks.

I would say that Marie and other stars promoting this are very rich and may(or may not) eat this stuff but you can bet they have personal trainers and personal chefs and all the things we aren't seeing.

It is very expensive and I doubt that it's really worth it considering that you can do it on your own with a little discipline and common sense.

I hate the idea of prepackaged food to lose weight. How do you live in the real world if all you eat is prepackaged expensive food. Switching poor eating habits with healthy ones and adding exercise is a much better way of losing/maintaining your weight and will make you healthier in the long run.

Nutrisystem - I know 2 couples who have used it, and have heard an earful.

#1 - It works. To lose weight. For the short term.

#2 - It is EXPENSIVE. So once you lose the weight, and get off of it, you are likely to revert to old habits, etc. You can't stay on it forever unless you enjoy paying a ton for food.

#3 - In line with #2 - the pre-pacakged part is a small part of the diet. You have to also eat so many carbs, proteins, veggies, etc., etc. A friend of mine packed her husband's lunch and dinner (swing shift) and it was insane. TONS of food. (This is why it works - you don't go hungry and it is a good plan, overall. But it is not nearly as simple as they make it out to be. Takes lots of planning).

#4 - There is a lot of sodium in the prepackaged parts, etc. Both couples I knew on it were skeptical how "healthy" it was.

To me it seems unnecessary. Just control your portions, and wa la! Nutrisystem. If you want to get healthy, read up on how to make healthy meals, control portions and find a way to exercise. That's my own nutrisystem!

Nutrisystem requires you buy a lot of produce and any dairy (eg milk) and maybe even bread at the grocery store - so it is pricey.

They have a really good forum and they (used to at least) boast that anyone can call their nutritionists on call, just join their forum - you do not have to purchase their food to be on their plan.

There are budget concerned followers and a woman calculated and wrote out recipes.

            Google: Amy nutrisystem cooking

and you can read on her blog what she did.

The forum might still lead you to others who post how they do the homemade version.
