Cptacek good luck! I just threw out the BC and was wondering if it could happen immediately.

Absolutely. If is definitely possible to get pregnant the first month off birth control.

Somewhat off topic, but I feel the need to throw out the reminder that breast feeding is NOT a form of birth control. Anyone who believes that may find themselves with 2 babies under the age of 1 before they know it.

From what I remember from the pregnancy books I read, around 80% of couples will get pregnant within a year, and the percentages decrease before that. So, (now I am making this number up completely) you have a 60% chance of getting pregnant in the first 6 months and an 80% change within the first year of trying.

Yeah I know immediately but I was wondering if that's what happened to most couples.

DS I heard that about breast feeding as well! Some women swear by it also!

              Congrats cptaceck!!!!!!!

LAL - yes I was pregnant immediately after stopping the pill.

& I agree with PP. I didn't think you had necessarily started trying or anything - my comments were more meant along the lines to relax about it. The more you "try" the less likely it will happen. Easier said than done, of course. It's a big decision and hard to wait when you are ready. But relax and be open that it may take a LONG time. Or it may happen tomorrow. That's all you can really know!

Well, thank you all! Sorry to hijack this thread, though! I've told most of my immediate family so far, and everyone is waaaay excited!

While stressing out about trying to get pregnant is not the way to go, there are ways to determine if you are fertile at a certain time, which may help. By watching your basal body temperature and cervical mucus, you can get a better idea as to if you are fertile or not. (No, it is not the calendar method.) There are also ovulation sticks you can get at walgreens and the like that you pee on and it tells you if you are fertile at that time.

We didn't do that...we just needed some time where we weren't apart over half the week every week, thank goodness.
