To keep this site free, I do a bit of collectible selling on ebay. This includes quite a few pre world war 2 items. You can see all my items currently on auction. Here is a list of the items that I regularly have for sale at reasonable prices:

    Japanese Medals

1904 Russian Japan War Medal: This medal commemorates the war between Japan and Russia in Manchuria, Korea and China. The medal was created with Imperial Edict No. 51 on March 31, 1906. The front features crossed 16 Joukyokujitsuki flags (often referred to as the Japanese Navy flag, but used by all branches of the military during times of war), a 16 pedal chrysanthemum crest (symbol of the Imperial Family) above and a paulonia leaf (symbol of the Imperial Family) below. The back features a Japanese shield with the characters "Meiji 37 (1904) - 8 years war."

World War 1 (1914 - 1915) Medal (Rare): This medal was awarded to those who participated in World War 1 and the capture the German colony of Tsing-Tao and the German held Pacific islands in 1914-15. The front is the same as the1914 - 1920 medal, but the back is slightly different with a single column of Japanese characters instead of 2 columns. Speculation is that the orginal mold was broken or damaged so that it could no longer be used since replacement medals for the 1914- 1915 medal were always the 1914 - 1920 type. This makes this medal much rarer than its cousin.

World War 1 (1914 - 1920) Medal: This medal was awarded to those who participated in World War 1 as either destroyer squadrons in the Mediterranean or those who went to Siberia after the Bolshevik Revolution. The medal was created with Imperial Edict No. 203 on November 6, 1915 . This blackened bronze medal features a chrysanthemum crest (symbol of the Imperial Family) on top of two crossed 16 Joukyokujitsuki flags (often referred to as the Japanese Navy flag, but used by all branches of the military during times of war) and paulonias all around the outer edges. The bar contains the Japanese characters for "War Medal" while tha back has the characters for "Taisho 3rd year (1914) to Taisho 9th year (1920) War."

Taisho Enthronement Medal: This medal commemorates the enthronement of the new emperor in 1915 (Taisho 4). This medal was created with Imperial Edict No. 154 on August 13, 1915 . This silver medal features a gilt chrysanthemum crest attached at the top with crossed branches of mandarine orange and cherry blossoms. Long banners sit in front with the Japanese characters for "Banzai!" on each. The back features Japanese characters which translate to "Grand Enthronement - Commemorative Medal - Taisho 4th Year (1915) - 11th Month".

WWI Victory Medal (Rare): This commemorative Victory medal was created by Imperial Edict #406 on September 17, 1920. The front features Take Mikazuchi No Kami - the son of the Japanese god Izanagi - who conquered Japan by defeating his brothers. The back features a globe in the center with flags all around. Each flag has a different Japanese character written inside for Japan, the United States, Britain, Italy and France. These are all outlined in a sakura (cherry blossom - a highly prized symbol for Japanese warriors because the cherry blossom falls to its death at the height of its beauty). At the bottom are Japanese characters that translate to "Other Allied and United Nations". Around the outside are the Japanese characters for " The Great War To Protect Civilization." The medal is dated Taisho 3rd year (1914) to Taisho 9th year (1920).

Showa Enthronement Medal: This medal commemorates the enthronement of emperor Hirohito in 1928 (Showa 3). This medal was created with Imperial Edict No. 188 on August 1, 1928. This silver medal features a gilt chrysanthemum crest attached to the center of the Imperial throne. Chinese cloud patterns (good fortune) are to either side with the Japanese characters for "Banzai" below. The back features the inscription "Grand Enthronement Commemorative medal" with the date Showa 3, 11 gatsu (November 1928) below.

1931 - 1934 China Incident Medal: This Chinese Incident medal (this was an undeclared war and is referred to by the Japanese as an "incident" - thus the name) commemorates the invasion of Manchuria by Japanese troops in 1931. This medal was created by Imperial Edict No. 255 on July 23, 1934. The front features a golden kite resting on top of a Japanese shield, with a 16 pedal chrysanthemum crest (symbol of the Imperial Family) above. Rays of "rising sun" light beam from behind the golden kite. The back features an Army and a Navy helmet with numerous tiny sakura (cherry blossoms - a highly prized symbol for Japanese warriors because the cherry blossom falls to its death at the height of its beauty) in the background. The Japanese characters below translate basically as "Showa 6th (1931) through 9th (1934) year incident".

The front features a "yata no karasu" (a mythical giant red crow) with a 16 Joukyokujitsuki flag (often referred to as the Japanese Navy flag, but used by all branches of the military during World War 2) on either side and a 16 pedal chrysanthemum crest (symbol of the Imperial Family) above.
