Thanks MarcJoe, Louis, Eagle for the encouraging words.

That's my last payment this year. Closing the books.

I'm not accustomed to having a huge debt so this is foreign to me and it's eating me out.

As a way to mentally ease pressure, starting next year I'll only focus on a smaller chunk -- $43,000 -- and just forget the rest until this gets knocked off. It may take me 2-2.5 years and that I'm more comfortable with.

    Happy Thanksgiving to y'all!!!

Congrats on your progress so far. How are you tracking your progress? I like to set my debts up on spreadsheets, as scheduled. Then as extra payments are applied, you can see the impact. Your spreadsheet recalculates and you can see how far ahead of schedule you are. If you are not already doing that, I suggest you try it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and family. If I follow correctly, since April you've paid down the principal by $ 11K. That's totally phenomenal for year one of a mortgage! Hope you'll ease up on yourself after all it's a house that we're talking about. You get to live there, it provides shelter and so much more. Are municipal taxes being added along with monthly interest? I wonder if using a mortgage calculator would let you see the wonder of what you've accomplished.

Use our free mortgage calculator to estimate your monthly mortgage payments. Account for interest rates and break down payments in an easy to use amortization schedule.

I'm kicking off 2015 with a psychological tactic : Forget the total debt balance for now and just focus paying on a smaller portion of it.

So my new debt amount I will be focusing on is . . . . $43,000. I plan to pay this in 2.5 years.

                Focused Debt : $43K

Randomsavor, Wish you a Happy and Successful New Year. What sum was saved in interest in your 2014 focus on mortgage? How many payments does your mortgage calculator indicate was saved? What does $ 43K represent? Is it other, non mortgage debt?

                    Same to you snafu!

Not sure how to compute but my past 2 months' statements showed a $4 drop in interest charges (from $454 to $450). To me, that means it's $4 that I could swing on to the side of principal reduction.

The $43K is just part of the last balance of $193K. The hope is I retain my sanity ( ) by just looking at a smaller figure.

Thanks for all your assistance! Hope we have a great year ahead!
