  • Medical Collections Bill how does this affect me

A while ago I went to the hospital but couldn't afford it, I finally raised up the money to pay the bill and was about to send it off when I got notice that it has been sent to collections and that they are willing to take 30% off the price.

I don't want this to affect my credit badly. If I submit the full amount to the hospital will it still end up on my credit report? Should I just pay it to the creditors as 30%?

I have never had a bill of any sort end up in collections before I'm unsure of what to do.

It may be too late. You can check your credit reports and see if it's on there. If not then paying it now could prevent it from getting reported.

I am sorry to hear that!

You would want to contact the collection agency and negotiate, making sure if you pay 70% of the balance as they offer, they will report your debt being "paid-in-full" and remove any negative information from your credit report.

      Good luck!

Thank you for this info. I'm going to call tomorrow and see what I can do.

It never hurts to ask them to delete it, but I have heard it's pretty difficult to get them to agree to it, and even if they do agree you have no recourse if they don't hold up their end. Some CAs are definitely easier to deal with than others.

Well I called today and paid it they agreed to report it as paid in full.

That's all I could do. It feels good to have that out of the way though. At least I know have an EF so things like this shouldn't happen anymore unless the bill is way more than my EF
