  • One more month to go before debt free, but suddenly my brother got dengue fever

Last year, I applied for a loan which is payable for a year. I used the money to move to a new apartment. My life run smoothly at first but after a few months, I got laid off from my job.
I struggled to pay the debt monthly taking part time jobs and whatever that will get me money (not illegal).

It's hard I know but it's just the way life is. Next month is my next payment schedule for my loan. I am very happy. I was excited to be debt free. Then suddenly my heart broke when my younger brother caught dengue fever. We have no emergency fund. We didn't have enough money for the medical expenses. He is in the hospital right now and I'm losing my sanity already.

I will be re applying for a loan to pay the bills. That will leave me into the sea of debt once more.
    How unfortunate my life is!

Can I ask why you are paying for your brother's medical expenses? It's a very noble thing for you to do, but you can't afford it. Doesn't he have other family that can help? Or, doesn't he have his own money or his own insurance?

First off, sorry for your brother... that really stinks especially since you're so close. In the future, you should practice the igloo method of debt repayment in the future, to protect yourself from emergency. But in the meantime, call your loan office, and if you have been on time up until this point it shouldn't be hard to get some kind of leeway. goodluck.

I agree with bj. It's certainly inspiring that you want to take care of your brother, but the implications of you going into debt to do it could (would?) go on for years. There must be another way.

Your brother is so lucky to have a sister as good as you are, The thing that happened to you is a very good learning experience, not to borrow money to move to a nicer apartment, especially if your source of income is unstable, second you must always have a separate account for any forms of emergency, so you dont have to borrow money incase an there is an unexpected circumstances.. I'm sure it will break your heart not to be able to do anything for your brother..

You did the best thing you could

That is a tough situation, However being in debt is not nice. You have done something great for you younger brother. And you should take some great comfort from that. You will be out of debt again soon.
